Zoa eating nudibranch

Default Zoa eating nudibranch

I have been struggling with close to all of my Zoas closing up and dying off. I've been testing the crap out of my water everyday or every other and water checks good. I have been moving PH's around, relocated some Zoas and no change. They all have done well up until recently.

I dicovered last night another little pecker that at first I thought was nothing. Well the little pecker was a Zoa eating nudibranch and there must be many more, sucks to be me. Tonight I will be pulling all that I can and dipping them.

Anyone go through this?
Anyone used flatworm exit for this?
Anyone have a wrasse that eats little peckers?

Yup that's those.....I don't know about FE but I dealt with them a few times....I spent about 2 weeks dipping and looking for egg masses. FW/Iodine dip seemed to work the best for the adults and sub adults. Doesn't seem to harm the eggs. You will have to manually do that...TMPCC does work as well I think.....I had to dip every frag and colony I had 2-3 times before I didn't see any more...I know a Green Grass Wrasse is supposed to eat them, but not sure if it will take care of egg masses.

I noticed that when doing a hydrogen peroxide dip the eggs swelled up like crazy and came off easyer. Not sure if it killed them or just made the jelly they are incased in loosen up.

Its used to treat the black bacterial slime that can develop around the skirts. I dont do it unless its real bad. You get alittle tank water into a container and add peroxide cap by cap until its just enough to mae the frag lightly bubble. Let soak for like a min or so then rinse in RO. Sometimes bubbles form on the flesh but not too bad. I have killed a few frags and healed a few frags doing this.

Best of luck to you Chuck. Which ever route you take assume that you didn't get the eggs and repeat your dip a week later.

FWIW I've heard that the osmotic pressure of just dipping in fresh water is enough to kill the nudibranchs and the zooanthids aren't very effected by the FW. This isn't an option for SPS and FW dipping on SPS is a big no no (from what I've read), hence the iodine dips. I've also heard that Iodine and softies is a no-no, but Azurel seems to have experience otherwise. HTH I've only had experience with montipora eatting nudibranchs.

Never heard of that before, thanks for sharing.

I dont think flat worm exit will do anything. You might also want to look into Julian Sprungs revive http://www.twolittlefishies.com/tlf_...html?lang_id=1

That's funny because revive is what I've been using for quite a while and used it last night. I saw lots of dead NOODIES, I also did the FW dip and now they are all in QT. Cross your fingers
