Sub Family Nasinae

Genus Naso

Latin Name Naso lituratus

Common Name(s) Naso Tang,Orange-spine Unicornfish,Lipstick Tang

Coloration
Brownish gray body with yellow edge around the mouth area,orange or yellow tail spines,and yellow or orange anal fin with a broard black band "with bule sometimes" on the dorsal fin.

Size and Growth Rate
Ranging from 10'-18'(roughly 30cm in average size)

Location and Geographic Range
Indo-Pacific:Red Sea East Africa Japan Great Barrier Reef New Caledonia Hawaii

Food
The Naso Tang feeds on brown type algae "sargassum" in the wild,in the home aquarium it can eat nori ,lettuce leaves,spirulina and brine shrimp , but it is not easy to get it eating other foods , but it can be done.

Fish Compatibility
A peaceful fish , and can be kept with other tangs that are not agressive,also they can be kept with smaller more peaceful fishes eg chromis anthias wrasses.
They are know some times to become agressive to other tangs.

Habitat/Depth Range
The Naso Tang likes lots of open swimming space and shady hiding places if frightened.Also they are found in outer reef slopes and lagoons at a deapth of anything from 5 meters to 70 meters.

Life Span
Up to 20 years

Reef Safe
Yes reef safe , they do not harm corals,but can harm inverts.

Care Level (Easy, Moderate, Difficult)
moderate to difficult
"Depending on various things ,such as water quality ,reef enviroment,other fish,and food"

Tank Size

At least a 100 gallon minium

Conclusion and Comments
Naso Tangs are very attractive fish,they like to graze over the live rock.
Many people have kept this fish with great success , while other seem to have no luck,i think the hardest thing keeping one of these fish it to get it eating a good diet ,if you can do that you should have success,and they are prone to ich "like most tangs"

LOL what I like about these Drew is that they actually make you learn as you write about the animal, even on the clam one's I did I learned stuff. It looks pretty good to me.

Did you get the Naso that you were talking of?

at first glance I think it looks pretty darn good Andrew! a few minor grammar edits but overall looks good to me

Indeed you do Chris , they make you think as well , but this species "there is so much DIFFERENT" infomation so i think i got it
