Montipora Capricornis Growth Battle - Reef-Geeks

A fellow reefer, Ellen (Ento Reefer) asked to see a pic of my monti's battling for space. Here's a few pics.. the first is october when i had just added the red cap.. the purple and green were already there a few months at that point. The second pic is after about 4 months of growth.... a little slow but i needed new bulbs!

That red one will probably out-grow the other two, unless it's shaded by the other two...... Nice montis though!

The new bulbs sure changed the color in those.

That new shot was with only 2 bars lit... actinic and blue plus....but they look about the same with all lights on, just brighter, but you're right, great color improvement imo...thanks

Nice growth John, but eventually without enough room to grow, one or two of your caps will be shadowed and not grow as well. Have you considered moving them to other places in your tank? They really need some space to grow out. It is easier to move them now before they become totally attached to the rocks and then need to be broken to be moved. Just my 2 cents.

Keep a vigil over the situation, they will kill or over grow eachother. My red monti almost killed my pokerstar monti by over shadowing it until I fragged it. They won't morph as someone asked but they will whorl around each other like in my tank here.

If you look closely you can see a digitata in the middle trying to out grow the purple one but it keeps climbing the stalk and over growing it.. I wish I had a time lapse on that one lol.

My Orange M. cap used to be HUGE, until I fragged it all down, to almost nothing. Then, I placed the small frag of it, along with a small frag of Idaho Grape Monti, next to one another, and let them encrust. I meant to add a Green with Purple Rimmed cap, but forgot to. Now, it just wouldn't look right...lol.
