in my experience the chalices are finicky... some like light, others none at all, and you really don't know until you get them in your tank a while

I love rhodactis mushrooms too! They get huge! And come in some great colors.. my favorites now are red with a blue base

I agree about getting good lighting first, then get the corals you want. That way you can support them and keep them healthy. They will look better under good lighting as well.

well guys this weekend when I went to get a cardnialfish for my tank I decided to pick up a large colony of green star coral. I know THE DREADED IMPULSE BUY! but the guy said it would be fine and my grandma thought it was really pretty and wanted to buy it for me. so anyway here are some pictures. the coral looks way more green in really life but the camera didn't capture the color well.

GSP look good but man they will spread fast if conditions are good for them. I have to continuosly trim mine from rock ,glass and other corals in the surounding area. Good luck with them.

GSP is a great coral!! But it does grow fast I liked to keep mine on an island when I had it, it would start to grown across the sand and I could pull it out and cut it off instead of it growing all over my rocks

Great purchase - it will work perfectly in your tank

That was one of my favorite corals, very bright and easy to keep. Might want to consider Estanoche's idea though of trapping it on a rock island. It can be very difficult to remove from rocks where you don't want it.

for the record guys I was looking for a coral that would grow relatively fast. as you guys may have noticed most of my rock is dry rock and an ugly bleached white coral. I was hoping to have the coral cover a good portion of it. so I will trim it when it gets too big but I do want it to cover the rocks.

I think I'm gonna hold off on anymore then like 10$ frags untill I get done stocking the tank. I only have so much money to throw around so I think I'm gonna finish stocking the tank first. I'm hoping to get some cleaner shrimp the next time I go to the LFS! with them and the cardnial fish in the caves there is gonna be a lotta life in my rock work!

Looks great! I love GSP - though I'm the rare reefer that's never had it grow to excess. In fact, I have a small chunk of it growing on a rock in my 29, and it hasn't spread at all in months. Very bizarre O_o

I absolutely LOVE estanoche's idea - - a cool little "island" can even be created on one of your rocks too Alex

patience Alex....patience! .....trust me...you do not want it covering your rocks - it chokes out other corals.........and trimming it is not as easy as you think.........but setting it up as a separate piece (island) where you can remove any spreading will really help you keep that pretty coral at bay AND still allow you to add other corals too!

hmmmmmmmmm.........it's been a while since we heard from you............. (hint)

So did you get anything this weekend? I saw some sexy shrimp and almost bought a pair. I think they would look cool in your tank!
