Hey Geeks, I am wondering if anybody on this forum has experience with fragging a leather coral? I have heard that the best way to do it is to lay it face down (stalk up) on a cutting board and then cut around the perimeter of the leather so you end up with a "ring" of the leather...then to cut sections off of that and tie them down to rocks with fishing line.
I have a beautiful leather in my 75 mixed reef (picture below) and its getting so large that I am considering that I may have to frag it down. Is this a difficult task? I don't want to pursue this if the risk is greater than the benefit. I have fragged all sorts of SPS, but softies seem like a whole different ballgame.

They are easy to frag. You can cut them anyway you want and they will grow. Ive even cut them at the base and the little bits that are left on the rock will grow into a new colony.
I have a video im looking for and ill post it as soon as i can find it |

Like Chris said - cut it where ever you'd like. You can make frags big or small.
Tying them wiht fishing line is good, I usually use netting - specifically I buy "thingy" from the dollar store (you konw those things you use with body wash) and cut it up. When they attach to the rock or pluc I remove the netting. |

Are you talking about the pouf sponge things??? Like this Sounds easy enough, I may have to try that with one of mine. Corals that is, my wife would kill me if I started cutting up her poufs.
