Question Removing Shrooms from rock?

How does everyone remove shrooms from their rockwork? Mine are starting to get out of hand and it is time to thin them out.

You can cut them off but if you leave any behind they will come back. You cant kill them if thats what your worried about.

Last night I took a steak knife and picked a few off and they lived. I'm not worried about killing them, I am worried about them killing my sps.

I guess you could hack them off, it will take time for them to grow back.

Just take a rzor blad and slice them across the foot as close to the rock as possible. Just keep in mind that they will grow bqack.

I wonder if smothering them in kalk paste like we'd do with aptasia would keep them from growing back?

Personally I am looking to have amushroom dominated tank - seems to be the only thing that can chole out bubble algae.

I've kalked them many, many times before.... when I had them growing on the same rocks as SPS I would just put a kalk paste barrier around my SPS to keep the shrooms at bay, same as treating aiptasia with kalk paste

If you leave even the tinyest shred of tissue, they'll grow back

so the kalk worked at getting rid of them too? I want to get rid of a few that are starting to stray from their "designated" rock

After you cut the mushroom at the stalk, how do you get it to adhere to the next rock you want it on? Superglue?

you can try glue, but the really do well attaching on their own. You can use netting like what comes with oranges and such and rubber band it on a rock.

Rubber band them to the rock you want them on. The rubber will rot and come off, but the shroom will stay there and spread.

That sounds like cake. I had planned on cutting the mushrooms off of the rock when I buy it, so I can place it where I want on my rock structures, without adding small pieces. I also wanted to put the rock that the mushroom was on, in another tank to see what other hitch hikers were there, and to let it regrow for another clipping later on. So just place the stalk of the rock and net it down, and hold the net down with a rubberband? Too easy.

you can also use a toothpick and put it thru the base of the shroom and then glue that to your rock.

Just stick the tooth pick in a hole and glue it down eh? That seems perfect. I could use a 0.060 drill bit and place it exactly where I want. Now if this tank would just get here.....

Every time I've had to remove shrooms, ive used one of two methods, one is a dremel with a diamond blade cutter and I cut a little V in the rock, the other much easier way is... Since live rock is so very brittle, you can use a large flathead screw driver, and literally pop out a chunk of rock that it's on. Obviously it doesn't work for the ones in crevasses.
