Default Unexpected Symbiotic Relationships

Hey Geeks! Well as the old adage goes, you learn something new every day… at least on good days!

I have added a few new friends to my tank, a pair of Maroon & Gold Clown fish. To my surprise they have eachaken hosts in what appears to be a symbiotic relationships… one with a large Hairy Mushroom and the other with a large Plate coral. Below are a few pictures which I think are very cool.

Does this surprise anyone else or am I the only one who thought Clown fish only paired off with Anemone? I guess this means I won’t feel bad about not having an anemone hosts for the fish… as you probably remember you all cautioned me against it anyway!

Grumpy.

Sorry, but I'm not sure what "BTA" means or "they are giving you that"? Would you please help me with your response. Sorry I'm a newbie with the acrynoms.

Thanks!
Grumpy

Very cool. Clowns will often host just about anything in an aquarium. I've had ones that hosted in a bubble coral. Chris&Barb I believe had some hosting in a clam. It seems they will usually take to anything with flowing tentacles they can hide in. Does make it much easier to make them happy.

This is normal if you don't have an anemone they will try and host in another coral but be careful if they don't harass those corals to death. Just keep an eye out for those corals

They may not take to a BTA now though. As long as the coral's aren't stressed, they'll be fine. It's a neat thing to see though.

I hate when they do this in my corals . My maroon host my large euphyllia and he is cutting off her polyps.

That's the biggest problem with clown fish.

Idono, i thought the biggest problem with clowns is the maroons are so dang mean! Those guys are super mean, the longer they host and larger they get the meaner they become. I had to get rid of my maroon as it started to attack any fish in half the tank, and me too.

But yes they will host in about anything. My perk pair have been hosting in my frogspawn for yrs now. They sleep in it, hang out, never leave it. When they feed its one at a time while the other one stays in the frogspawn. They will carry food over to it as well. When i had a maroon it would grab my fish and try and pull them into the BTA, it was a mean fish.

They are the best looking clowns imo. There colors are awesome, its just the boogers aggression as to why i don't have any more. Darn thing could draw blood once it got big enough, and that didn't sit ok with me. Then again it was better than that 2barred rabbit that tried to stick me every time i had my arm in the tank. I must just have bad luck or something.
