What temperature do you run your reef at?

I am curious what temp everyone keeps their reefs at. I have always kept mine between 78-82 F, but have been running my new tank a bit cooler at 75-77F.
I have noticed less algae, and the corals seem to be doing just fine as well as the file fish. I have read different authors ideas for keeping our tanks at lower temps 74-77f and also higher temps. 80-84F. I want to know what your personal experiences have been at the temperature you have chosen to run your tank. Thanks. |

I am curious what the long term effects of running a tank slightly cooler than normal will be. |

Note sure Mate, I don't use the controllers temp, just a thermometer, haven't had time to mess with the controller and temperature hasn't been a pressing issue. The type K thermocouples shouldn't have much of a dead band though. |

Sorry Ian ,i thought you did control your temp through some sort of controller
![]() No thermocouple, has a dead band It's the controller that makes the dead band

Whats up?
|
|
I run my tank between 75 and 81 daily. because thats how it seems to work... even though its 30 some odd gallons and has 2 150w heaters and a 250w halide and no cooling systems it just doesnt want to get over 83f
strange but i can deal with it

I had always stayed around 82 here in Florida and I'm on a Ranco dual stage controller. I recently bumped it up to 83 cuz I heard of people getting great growth rates at the slightly higher temps. What needs to be mentioned is the greater algae growth as well, I'm going back down

mines is sitting on 25 Degrees or 77 fahrenheit .. Expecting some very hot summer days soon which will bump it considerably..
Last year consistant 104 fahrenheit days cost me some corals. Cant wait for that chiller to arrive!! |

78 - 80 year round. the halide helps the heaters ( 600W ) in the winter and the basement sump helps cool in the summer ( the AC doesn't hurt ).

82-86 F. Gets cooler in the summer because of the air conditioner and will get down to 78, but it's winter now with the furnace on so it won't go below 82.
Everybody seems to be quite happy with that temp
