Default to small of skimmer

well i wrote this all out once and hit post and it didnt work. lol so here we go again but shorter this time
i got a skimmer that i was told was a euroreef 180 well its not its a rs-80 rated for 80 gallon tank i guess. but it seem to be doing a good job in my tank. so my question is should everything be ok just running that skimmer? it seems to be doing just as good as the aqua-c 180 i had thats still sitting in the sump but isnt plugged in. and i want to take it oue but if the new one isnt going to be ok i need to know

Hey mods can you change the title to say skimmer instead of reactor?

I took care of your title for you. The skimmer is going to just work and work. It's not going to hurt anything running it. I run an undersized one on my 100 gallon tank and my parameters are all ok. Just keep an eye on it. You can always upgrade later or just get a second smaller tank

Cool thanks. ill take the old aqua c out then. I do plan on gettin a good one in a few months. along with a controller lights and a bunch of stuff. just need to safely get by till then. i dont think a second tank is going to happen. one is a big enough power bill. plus i live in an apartment "that i manage" but moving two tanks if i ever had to would be to much hassle. BUT... a lion fish tank would be cool

Its going to do all it can do. Sizing a skimmer is kinda guess work anyway. Sizing a skimmer really comes down to the bioload in the system so that skimmer might do just fine for you as long as you dont have a ton of fish.

I would rather have one that is too big then one too small , JMO incase you decide to add to the live stock!!

We ran a 55 gallon for many years with out any skimmer at all , it depends on your habits whei it comes to the tank, I think a skimmer will save ya a little cash over time but IMO it should be cleaned regularly, The ones I have are HOB skimmers so my sugestions are based on that style,,
