i have a 180 gallon 72x24x28... i have 2 lumenarc III's and i was wondering if i should go with 400 or 250 watts each?..... i plan on it being a sps tank with a few lps, zoa's, ric's, and clams..... which one?

Your tank seems fairly shallow, so I think 250 watts would be ok, but whatever you feel like doing, I think both will work.

250's would work better with ric's. I'd step up to 3 reflectors though, and stick with 250's. 400's would be good in a system with shallow water species of SPS, but you'd have to target your whole system around this. Though some reefers do prefer 400watters. I honestly would start with 250's and see how you go. You could pop in a 400 over your SPS if you chose too though.

That's a good point. My friend with a 280 has one right 250 and one left 250 and a 400 in the middle.

With only two reflectors you might have some dark spots on the ends or in the middle. If you went with 400 watters you could keep them higher and you would get better light spread (no dark spots). You might be able to do the same with the 250s also.
