Default Pics of the 180

Here are some shots of the 180. I lost a ton of livestock during the move which resulted in a major cycle. These are just to show how bad the hair algae outbreak got within 2 weeks of setting the tank up. They were taken Oct 28.

Here are some pics I took today for comparison. I am slowly winning the battle.

There are 2 tangs in the tank now. 1 scopas and 1 yellow. They ate all the algae off the powerheads in a couple days. They seem to be buddies (so far at least) they eat side by side. The tank had been somewhat neglected when I got it and the skimmer hadn't been running in about 3 months. I got the skimmer up and running within 2 days of setting the tank back up, added 65 snails and 3 emerald crabs and a dozen hermits. I also built an algae scrubber using some old 65 watt pc lights I used to use on my freshwater planted tank before I went to t5s. I think the combination of all these things has been the key to getting the algae under control. I have been impatiently waiting for my vlamingi, naso and tenenti tangs I should be getting them by the end of this week and shortly thereafter I will probably have to start feeding nori to keep all the tangs fat and happy.

What a great improvement! You have some nice looking zoas and palys, too!

When I picked up the tank the left front 1/4 of the glass was covered in xenia, and the entire back glass was covered in bluish grey palys that I had to scrape off, the previous owner said they were like weeds and were taking over the tank. I can believe him because they are already just popping up in various places around the tank. Including in the middle of zoa colonies.

dang pesky palys - get some tweezers, safety goggles, and pick them off!! Ive found those ones are growing right on top of your other zoas, so they are pretty easy to pick off and ID even when they are closed up cuz they are bigger and have different polyps structure

Holy cow, those are some BEASTS! My LFS had those before their main display tank crashed, and they had covered the entire left side of their 250 gallon tank O_o It was cool, and they were very pretty, but definitely a pest at that point.

I was thinking of hitting them with some Joes Juice when I go in to hit the aiptasia that came with the tank. Do you think that would work?

I am going to hit the ones that are taking over the zoas, and hopefully I will be able to keep up with em. Maybe I should put them up on ebay. I probably have at least 500 polyps of them. I can see the ad now
" super fast growing paly will overrun everything in your tank in months" You think they'd still sell lol
