what happened to it? do you know? i don't know that i would "try" to do anything other then make sure the flow isn't to strong where it is, so it doesn't make it rip more. My first thought would be to feed it, to give it some fuel to heal......but i'm not 100% sure..

hmmm there's others that have had these and still do. I'm sure that someone has experienced this before. Hopefully it will heal itself soon.

I've had my plates come back from these types of "rips" .......
Just watch it, keep some gentle flow on it to ensure that you don't get a jelly infection, and wait it out. Once its back to 100% it will heal up over the "ripped" area.

How long have you had it? It looks a little stressed out to me. I wouldnt do anything unless you start to see infection, then i would dip it in one of the coral dips

First off leave it alone, I would not bother it at all, it will heal on its own. I had an urchin (bulldozer of the sea) push a 4" rock out of position and it landed dead on my 4" green plate. Broke a piece 1" x 1/4 piece off the edge of it and made absolute mincemeat of the skin on top.
Damn thing looked dastardly for the longest time but I left it alone figuring it would either make it or die, and it came back really nicely, till my frag tank crashed about 2 month ago! But I have just one question to ask.... We all know that they move but they move really slow, so how did it "HIT" a rock? I have this little movie playing in my head of it flying across the tank like a flying saucer and "BAM!" it hits a rock! Of course every one knows I am nuts and knows that did not happen right?

As others have mentioned, put it in an area of low flow. Also, make sure it's protected from sand settling on it. I wouldn't attempt to feed it, until it heals. Leave it alone, give it the best water quality and wait it out. If it's healthy, and given gentle flow, it'll most likely recover.

Something else and god forbid, but if it does die, don't remove it from your tank. Just find somewhere out of the way to put it where it can get some light. Most every plate coral even though they may seem dead will for want of a better word "resurrect" itself.
Eventually you will see little nubs growing on top of the skeleton, which will become little carbon copies of the original. I have had this occur and so have many others. Dead Fungia My dead plate coral reborn

Well today I was at barrier Reef talking to Brea about what happened. I have since discover that the two blue fish with yellow stripes on their heads at black Damels and that they like to taste stuff. The plate was the easiest target because the only other soft thing in is a rose bud anemone. I also have a Cabbage coral in there and thought the other day the edge looked chewed on and though nothing of it. So now i have two black Damels that are going to need an new home. SInce I am on vacation in seattle my house sitter cut a two liter bottle in half and has surround the plate coral and has waited it down with a rock. So they can have or see the cake (plate coral) but they can not eat it. LOL
does anyone have a fish only tank i can give these two fish with good taste buds too??? they are free????? they are a little big to be carpet food!!!!! |

Once someone has gone on a eating binge at my expense they general because of what they ate. these two will need a new home. I saw one that is older than my two that had turned black. He was living at wild World aquariums and Reptiles in a fish only tank. Do we have any fish only people on the forums? Cause I got two fish for free to what ever kind of home. LOL
