Default six line wrasses and starfish

HI EVERYONE!!!!! Things have really changed since April...WOW! The house is now rented and I can start getting back to normal.....whatever normal may be for me.

I had a pair of Six-line wrasses. The female happened to jump out while I was away. My son found her and flopped her back in the tank. She swam around slowly for about four hours then disappeared. While she was swimming around the tank, the male wrasse never left her side. I found her the next morning on the bottom with about 10 crabs trying to do their job. Here's the crazy part....the male was chasing everything off. It was actually hitting the crab shells away from her. Then it would go over and nudge the female. I watched this for a bit then removed the little thing. He disappeared for quite a while. I thought it had stressed him out too much. He did appear later on for a morning feeding. Seems to be fine....Have any of you seen this kind of interaction with pairs? I understand swimming with her. But to actually guard her.....strange.

Next thing! Does anyone know of a way to get rid of those tiny little starfish? asterina stars? I was "given" a couple from a pet shop. I should have known better when something is given away very quickly. lol these dang things are everywhere and eating all of my healthy coralline algae Any suggestions?

I am really hoping to get more free time to talk to everyone! I have a lot of catching up to do with 1791 unread posts! I did my part in voting for august....they were all really nice shots!

Ive never heard of anything like that before but it dosent surprise me. I dont think we give animals enough credit when it comes to things like this

I like those little stars but i can see how you dont. I wonder if harlequin shrimp will eat them? Might be worth looking into.

Hey Lonna good to have you back!

We expect you to have all those posts caught up and a full report on them by this time tomorrow!!!

Yes a Harlequin Shrimp will eat them, I had them before with a Harlequin and it cleaned them up quick. Problem is you need to keep buying starfish to feed to the shrimp. But it is actually really cool to watch them do their thing!

Ouch.........I knew someone was going to bring up a harlequin shrimp! Would you believe me if I told you I just gave one away? I didn't have the heart putting the chocolate chips through that slow death! So after killing about 4 of them, the shrimp went to a new home........ Dang it!
The house is done and rented out. I am soo tired. The kitchen was bare studs on july 27th. August 4th the family moved in. I was there a few days from 6:30 am to 12:30 am the next day. I am getting way too old for that stuff.
All of you would have cringed at the sight of my tanks. Red algae in one tank and brown hard algae on the glass in another. The snails were happy with all of that food. It took me two days to get my tanks back to looking half decent.
I am soo happy to be talking to all of you again!

That sucks about giving away the shrimp right before you need it. I have a bunch of the stars in my tank, I'm ok with them for now, but it is good to know how to get rid of them if needed.

WOO HOO! Lonna's back! ....we need all the female vibes we can get too! GREAT news about the house (I saw the before/after shots and it looks amazing!)...so sad but sweet to hear about the wrasse...our female saddleback wasn't really the same after she lost her mate either...I agree with chris too - we don't give them enough credit...I do believe they can relate to us and have feelings! how's he making out now? good to have 'ya back! and just in time too....September's gonna be crazy here
