There are a few that do this
But if you do not leave the water in there too long you will be ok imo

If it's food grade you'll be right, other plastcis are no good. I've had problems with plastic garbage bins that were not food grade.
They will eventually need some sort of cleaning, so I just give mine a hit of vinegar and RO/DI water to clean them out. I wipe them out after the rinse with paper towels.

Hey BJ , is that because you have left the water in the container for a long period of time ?

I think it's more the fact that a bunch of chemicals (calcium chloride etc) are added, and are not 100% pure. You always get some sort of build up in the bottom of the drum. I think the slime that can occur, is just bacteria starting to grow. But since I'm not 100% sure, I like to give my drums a good clean. I want to have the cleanest water I can have available at the time of a water change, especially considering how long I take to mix up my water.
When I'm not busy, I'm a clean freak with my equipment. It's only since I've been trying to finish the house, I haven't kept up with it. I did get to try a sample of salt, that when left for a week, had a brown algae growing in it. I've always found the cheap stuff to be a problem.

Had to feed bub's
![]() As for the non-food grade, I found that they get dirty quick. I tested the water out of a 60ltr garbage bin and found that the NO3 was over 10ppm, in a week. So I don't trust them anymore.
