Dip for Acans

Default Dip for Acans

My acan colony has slowly been receding the past few days. In some parts, the skeleton is even poking through because the flesh has deteriorated. It's my fault - I hadn't done a water test before putting the colony in, and after doing one found not only a slightly elevated level of nitrates, but a super low level of calcium.

So I have finally, through water changes, cleaning, and adding a calcium supplement, gotten my levels stable. However, the colony is still looking really bad. I wanted to know if there was a good dip anyone can recommend to help heal the colony. There is still tissue on most of the colony, it's just looking weak and thin. I expect in 2-3 more days without any treatment, it would be completely gone.

I don't want a disinfectant dip as much as I want something more medicinal and healing, if that makes sense.

Any advice is appreciated!! Thanks for the help!

I was reading something earlier that suggested that most of the tissue receding was from bacteria, so I would suggest something that will kill off bacteria.

coral rx is one option. Seachem reef dip. Iodine is another option

Okay. I do have the Seachem reef dip coral disinfectant, so I will give that a shot. If I don't notice any kind of improvement in the following 24 hours, I'll try something different, like Coral RX or Iodine. Thanks for the tip!

I would go with this product to try and get the tissue a fighting chance

Brightwell Aquatics Restor - Liquid Coral Tissue Nutritional Supplement - AquaCave

Then if it starts opening up, spot feed it when you feed your fish.

ohhh and make sure your clown isnt bothering it - I had all my acans decide to recede like that on me and my dang clowns saw it as a snack just for them!!

in the end, a quick dose in some iodine based dip, and placing them in a ziploc container with holes drilled in it for flow allowed them to "heal" without my dang clean-up crew eating them before they could heal completely!!

Oooohhhhh good thinkin' - since the clown that's in there is the one that was snacking on the monti in the 2 gallon when its tissue was receding I will most definitely be putting it somewhere safe to heal that is closed off from the hermit and the clown. Thanks for the tip!!
