I have noticed a sagging head with what looks to be calcium build up on my hammer coral. At first i thought the head that was sagging was dying. Not the case after almost 2 weeks it is still alive and the tenticle or lobes move to the touch. It is almost broke off now and I am wondering if this head will still live? Also why would it do this? I have had it almost 2 years now with never a poroblem. It started outwith only 2 heads and barely bigger than a golf ball in size. Now it is larger than a grapefruit.

Could be slow polyp bail too - if it falls off, and lands on a rock or something it can create a new colony... do you have a pic???
That'll help us better understand what you are talking about!

nice!! Wherever that piece lands - assuming nothing nefarious happens to it, it will probably start a new little hammer colony
I'd put a tiny rock under it so its got something to attach to!

Very cool example of Polyp Bailout. I've had this happen, with a large Favia and a Frogspawn, in the past. Here's the Favia.

![]() Last I read up on it, there was no 100% sure answer as to 'why?'- though stress in one form or another was suggested as one cause. |
