Default Hello everyone

I am new to Reef-Geeks. I have been out of the hobby for a few years now and finally had the chance to set up another tank. I bought a Red Sea Max and had some LEDs retrofitted into it. I am excited to be back in the hobby. I am currently about 3 months into the tank and am having a little trouble with the LEDs burning everything and seem to have a few unwanted pests. All else is good so far. I just wanted to take the time to say hi.

I added pics to the previous post. As far as pests so far I have had flatworms, zoa eating nudis and pyamid snails. I also had a rogue emerald crab take out some stuff.

I wish it still looked like that. HA! I have had to adopt the scoly out becasue it was getting WAY too much light. Only one of the chalice frags is left. The zoas and most of the acans are still recovering from getting too much light. The LEDs can be dimmed. I cut them back from 100% for 8 hours a day to about 40% for 5 hours a day. Things are slowly recovering. Everything was great when I got the shipment of frags because I put them all in the sand for a month or so. I then glued them where I wanted in the rockwork and they all started melting away. It took me a few days to realize it was the lighting that was the problem.

have you tried any flatworm exit?

The snails should die off since there isn't a clam in there. Are they bothering anything else?

I bought some flatworm exit but haven't used it yet. The flatworms aren't really bothering anything. I have just seen a few on the glass at the sandbed. There is a small gold maxima in the top right. It is sort of under the overflow in the picture. FWE is supposed to kill the nudis also but I am a little worried about doing damage to the inhabitants.

If your sure that you have flatworms, I would nip that in the butt before they start showing up anywhere else.

Which type is it?

---150g Custom (52x28x25) in the works.

If your going to release your captive Lionfish (or any fish for that matter), take it to your LFS. They will most likely give you a small store credit that is worth more than the gas you will spend driving to the beach.

Thanks. Unfortunately I had to adopt the scoly out to a fellow reef club member. The LEDs were just too much light for it.

I am sure I have them. It is the typical reddish colored planaria. I don't have polyclad or anything exotic like that. I barely even notice them. I just see them occasionally on the glass right below the sand bed. I also was blowing some detritus off the rock work last night and noticed quite a few under a certain zoa frag.

I bought some FWE a month ago to treat for the zoa-eating nudis but never got around to using it. I might just go ahead and treat for them both at the same time. Anyone know what dosage I should use? I have read of people doubling and tripling doses and still having problems. I have also read that they (flatworms) will go away on their own.

I would 1000000% follow what the directions say. You're taking to much of a chance if you double or triple things up.

Most people do 3xs the dosage procedure that is on the box... I tried 6x once, still didn't kill all the flatworms

I think the instructions say, add enough for a single dose, wait 45 minutes, if FW aren't floating around, dose again, rinse, repeat, until they actually start falling off the rocks and floating around.. I'd recommend siphoning out as many as you can too as soon as they die, maybe that is why mine came back.. I didn't siphon out enough

Plus you are supposed to siphon them out cuz their decaying bodies will poison your tank (i think the instructions say this too)
