Default hello all

It’s nice to see a forum that isn’t all about selling fish stuff….Hopefully I’ll be a contributing member of this forum.

Tell us about yourself! Got a tank? If so, what are your specs?? (size, years it's been running, inhabitants, etc). If not, do you plan on having one?

Good to have you with us, and look forward to your contribution!

I’ve been in the hobby for about 9 years, 15 if you include fresh water. I’ve pretty much done it all from nano tanks to prorogation to full retail. I’m now back to where I started in a sense.

Currently I have a 225gal 72x30x24 starfire tank that has been neglected for over a year due to having our first baby. She turned nine months a few days ago and at this point I feel I can now spare enough time to focus on the tank again.

Two weeks ago I pulled out the razor and scraped about 10 lbs of coralline off of the tank walls, did a 100gal water change, and move some rocks around. I added two additional HOT5 lamps and a strip of LED to my tank. Right now I’m running 6x80watt HOT5 and one strip of 3watt LED. In the near future I plan to add a second strip of LED. Last week a friend gave me his spare Tunze wave box which I am not running with two Koralia 6. I actually upgraded the koralia 6 to 7s but I felt it was too much flow for what I’m keeping right now so I switched them back.

In terms of corals there isn’t much: three rose bubble, 3 large frog spawn, a huge leather 24”+ wide that isn’t doing to well at the moment, and probably two dozen small green leathers. Being in the hobby this long I’ve made a lot of really good friends so in about two weeks when the tank is ready I should have 3 dozen or so SPS frags coming my way.

As far as the filtration I have a 100gal sump with a Vertex 280 and 110 mangroves. It’s pretty basic but it works. I also have a dual chamber calcium reactor and a 1/3hp chiller sitting in the garage for when I need it.

Anyway please excuse the grammar and spelling mistake. I only forum surf during work so when I post I have to do it on the low; not that that’s an excuse

Ohh and for some reason I never took any pictures of the tank when it was fully stocked. The only picture I can find is from when it was first setup.

Here is a tank I had when I was really in to the hobby and took pictures weekly. This was before the wife, kids, house, and multiple car payments.

Holy cow!!! That's a beauty! I totally understand not having time for a tank. I had three running while I had a newborn, and I really shouldn't have. I just tore down and sold two of them because I am pregnant again, and just can't see myself taking care of three tanks, a toddler, AND a newborn. Too much! Now it's just my little 2 gallon.

Glad to see you have the time to get back into it, now! How very exciting!!

Man I would have a harder time with a 2gal then I would with a 225.

Hehe yeah, you'd think it'd be more of a pain. I honestly thought it would be the hardest, most unstable of all my tanks. It turned out to be not only the easiest, but the most stable. Go figure!

I like the fact that the water changes are so small - like 4-5 cups a week. It's really very easy, surprisingly.

Other then keeping the tank more opened I don’t plan to change too much. The tank ran successfully with very few problems for about two years before I stopped maintaining it. So I dont want to changed what has worked for me.
