If you're in the area, come out and support my Brother. What an awesome show of love. For his Brothers in Arms, and his little girl he's running home to see.

3rd Ranger Battalion combat veteran Cory Smith is highlighting the difficult transition so many veterans face by making a very difficult, public and personal transition - he's running home! Columbus GA to Indianapolis IN - 565 miles.

Ranger to run 500+ miles home to raise awareness about transition to civilian life | WRBL

COLUMBUS, Ga. -- After nearly four years of military service 28 year old Corporal Cory Smith with the 3rd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment is hanging up his uniform for good and donning running gear.
“I’m going to be starting my run here from Columbus, Georgia all the way to Indianapolis, Indiana,” said Smith.
The 565 mile journey is in part to bring awareness to what military personal face when they leave the service.
“With the military they had the security and now they have a lot of things they are going to try and figure out when they get in the real world. How are they going to find a job? How are they going to support their family? Are they going to be able to maintain the lifestyle they have? It scares a lot of people. A lot of people can’t handle it,” said Smith.
Smith's other mission is to get back home to be with his 18 month old daughter.
“Whenever I became a father I really figured out that is my number one job. That's one thing that I can say that I’m good at is being a father,” said Smith.
After two deployments to the Middle East, he wants to spend more time watching his daughter grow up which will start at the finish line.
“Just giving her a big squeeze and her just looking at me and saying daddy and just smiling,” said Smith.
Smith said the nonprofit organization GallantFew who helps military heroes transition successfully to civilian life is helping him achieve his goal. He hopes his run will resonate with others facing a difficult time.
“You're never going to know when you prevented a suicide and if I can affect someone else's life then that's the best thing I can do,” said Smith.
During Smiths' run, he'll be making a quick detour for a civilian job interview and hopes to reach Indianapolis by the beginning of February.
If you would like to cheer on Corporal Cory Smith or join in on any part of his journey, he's leaving the Link's of Maple Ridge Apartment complex on South Stadium Drive at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon.

That's one hell of a run! I would have to break that into about 1,500 days at my ability. Good cause too, I hope it helps.
