OMG...they certainly bring back memories...some good....some not so good...
... I really think you've mastered the sump though so now we concentrate on rock, aquascaping, flow (yay Vortech pumps), regular hands on "cleaning" and coral compatibility! ... oh yeah...almost forgot about the overflowing tub of xenia we had ... it was fun exchanging it for lfs credits though!

We are going to get the 180 redone first but we should have plenty of rock left over from that to add to the 75. I want to be really picky about the rockwork in the 75 so im going to take my time with it. Then im thinking i might run it detached from the rest of the system for a while, blacked out, before bringing it inline.

Because it going to be mostly dead rock and it will probably have lots of organics in it so im going to try and cycle them out before plugging it into the rest of the system. Keeping it blacked out should help keep any algae that might want to grow in there from growing.

So after the first redo this is what we came up with.
It worked pretty well but flow was still an issue. I had added a closed loop and it worked well except that after a few weeks of running it started producing micro bubbles. I would turn it off, clean the pumps and it would be fine again for another few weeks and micro bubbles again. I got tired pulling the pumps aff all the time so i just turned the closed loop off. Im sure the flow is what caused our latest SPS issues so we are not taking any chances this time around. ill get some more photos of what the rocks look like now and after the redo x2 when we get started. |

As a guitarist and Phish fan, gotta love the Dead!
Can't wait to see the rebuild. I had no idea your previous sump was so complex.

chris & barb, wish you'd have mentioned the dead when you were over. me too loves the boys. many many shows, mucho fun from the 70's until jerry's unfortunate passing. did you happen to notice my autographed 'go to heaven' album or my very rare radio city hall poster? seems like only yesterday!!

I have no idea. I couldnt find a leak anywhere. I left the pumps off for a few weeks thinking that if there were a leak it would so up by then but nothing

strange thing . I guess to have micro bubbles or the bump is working dry above water level or there is a leak.Any other source that may producing bubbles in the sump and the bump was just sucking them;
