OK - this scheme has been in my head for years!! (honestly, I can't believe I've waited this long!)

It is time, to retire this treasure

(my 20 gallon frag/QT tank) for something a little classier, and not made from garage sale spare parts

So.... guess what the UPS guy brought me !!

(my kitty will take the place of the UPS guy in this example since I wasn't home to sign for it

)

The hubby threatened to throw it on the floor!!

Although with all that bubble wrap it prolly woulda bounced hehe

And, tada!!! Mr. Aqua 25 gallon cube!! It looks soo big

and purdy

Got my lighting all picked out too, 2 PAR38 bulbs hung from the ceiling on cheap IKEA pendants

Now, time to design/build a stand

Today's theory is:

Yes, 100% reusing the old HOB fuge... I am paranoid about the HOB on a rimless tank, so I'm gonna build a support structure for it to "sit on" while HOB on the back of the stand

As for flow - I'm likely going to re-jigger the closed loop, or, just throw a MJ type powerhead in over the SPS frag rack - let the fuge provide the needed flow to the softies

How about some pre-cut wood pieces

Got it mostly assembled (just used standard wood screws, I hate nails and glue

)

I decided I wanted something "a little fancier" - so I put some girly legs on it - got the glue setting here with some salt to weight it down

And, tada!!! the tank even fits

.....

Now how the heck am I gonna skin this thing???

I have that exact same tank sitting dry down stairs. It's a great little rimless cube.

Heres my stand I built if it helps, used bead board from home depot

Can you build me a stand to hold a 120 w/ a 29 on each side and behind the 120, a 55 and 40 under the 120 ( the 55 goes up front for viewing), with a 20gallon under the right side 29, and a nice cabinet under the left hand 29? Ill come pick it up lol.

So, I went to the local second hand construction supply place, and found this awesome cabinet door for $5!!

With this piece as my "inspiration", I now have a complete stand, 100% built by me, and it only required a 6 pack of beer, 1 bandaid, and 3 or 4 "ohhhh ****, I need to cut that again"s ;D

Outer skin applied -

Top trim - Since the door I got was pre-finished natural wood, I just put a few layers of polycoat on the stand to give it that "shiny look", and stood around in the wood aisle at lowes for a while trying to make sure my woodgrains matched on my trim

And, finally, door installed!!! Woot! Woot!!

now, when will I find the time to transfer all my livestock over from the other tank and get this thing wet
