Each teaspoon of the VC that you are using has 548mg sodium bicarbonate in it so in a 50 gallon tank one teaspoon will raise alk about .1 dkh

Not much to tell about realy.
30 gallon tank has the engineer gobie , and a mandrian,,few diferent snails, and a redish colord serpant star, a couple yellow tail damsles,,, The chocolate chip is in a 55 gallon with two serpant stars and 3 damsles, and tons of newbie snails, the colurpa has now been harvested 4 or 5 times to keep it in balance. Filters , 2 HOB used as sumps and treatment portals,, a skimmer in each tank along with 1 canister filter. Lighting on the big tank is about as simple as it gets ,,,, A shop light with regular florecent bulbs!!LOL I did trade Courious out of a regular florecent fixture with some realy skinny bulb in it, pretty bright for little bulbs!! I dont add much of anything as far as treatments Kalk or any thing. No calcium reactor or co injection. Big tank is been runing for at least 8 years now. It was origionaly set up as a Hawaiian tank, had decorator crabs , urchins, shrimp, snails I cant even find any more,, Garden eel ,, ya name it we had it one time or another, tangs of all sorts,,,then had some bad luck a couple times with power outages and then a short in a plug strip,,all when we werent home, so Now what ya see is what we got!!LOL Bout it. Other then water changes its a pretty cheap set up to run and not much to brag about!!LOL Wanting to do away with the HOB stuff and move to one pump and a diferent filtration system , hoping to save a littl e electric |

I wouldnt say that. The coral you have looks very healthy, the fish too and the tank very clean. You could tell us what you do every week for the tank, what equipment you have and what troubles and triumphs you have had

LOL
Well Chris the tanks are not quite as clean now as they usualy are, I have had a terrible time lately with brown alga, I thought I would put a piece of that stuff ya get in the plastic container in the tank on a fish clip for the snails I had hatching out,,and man I wish I hadnt ,, I have had a time with that stuff.Any way I just do as I allways have , the zenia was fraged three times now and just keeps on growing. i feed DIY and maybe a little extra fresh cod sliced and minced real well for the serpant stars. Other then that its just VtC, b-6 , B12 in the DIY food and not to much of it at that. Not much to tell. I do miss not having a lot of diferent criters like we used to , I used to have a couple clowns that would eat out of my hands, didnt mater if I had food or not LOL The one liked to nip at ya if ya wasnt feeding him. The serpant stars used to but now they dont seem to be intrested untill the food hits the bottom of the tank and swirls around a little. We didnt even know we had a garden eel until one day we seen him, a few days later we found him stuck in the filter tube and he had got stuck, he was probably the coolest criter I ever had , the kids allways liked the decorator crabs and the feather dusters!! Had oysters I bought out in Seattle,, actualy North Bend at the grocerie live for close to a year in the tank , they were pretty neat they had barnicles living on them, looked like little hands poping out of small craters waving !! Strange , when the oysters died so did the barnicles! Its been a lot of fun over the years. Its funny , I know more about how to take care of the stuff now then I ever did and I dont have even close to what I used to to take care of!!LOL |
