Pat's 75 gal Reef Ready tank build - Reef-Geeks

About 3 weeks ago I picked up a brand new 75 gal Reef Ready tank from a guy on craigslist for $150. Now I'm gonna get it setup and running.

I'll be the first to say...

so....

I started with the sump today, but didn't glue in any baffles cause I wanted opinions before glue.

Empty sump tank
Baffles in place
Close up of first baffle set
Final baffle and return pump
Top down shot of entire sump in tank.

Flow for the tank is from:
1000 GPH return pump
750 GPH Korallia evo
700 GPH no name powerhead.

I am using 2 heaters that are rated for 55 gal each

Light is a 2 bulb T5 till I can get something better.

About 75 lbs of live rock 40 lb live sand and 10 lbs pucka shells from the 55 gal tank that it is replacing. I will also add 20 lbs of sand to the mix when I setup the new tank.

I don't think those bikes are gonna fit in your sump, you need a bigger tank

Do you think just 1 baffle before the return pump will be enough to keep your micro-bubbles out??

If the one isn't enough, I have a plan to add 2 more, before the fuge, and a piece of foam which should stop any bubbles. But for now I want to keep the fuge as big as possible.

If there are no more suggestions I'm gonna try to get time to glue it tonight, but don't let that stop you. I love constructive criticism, hopefully it will cut down on mistakes.

It's a 30 long, the biggest that fits in my stand.

No glueing last night, I got home to late, thanks Craig.

Almost no chance of glueing tonight. I just have to make sure I get it done by Thursday night.

WOW, been a busy 9 days.

I got the tanks transfered over last night.

Now the bad news, no pics were taken in the swap. I know

The good news is that all the parameters were good so all my fishies made the move to the new tank, and everyone looks happy.

I'm hoping that DPA is open tomorrow so I can get a better light for my tank. I want the Aquatic Life 6 lamp 48" T5, but we will see tomorrow.

Well my GBTA disappeared yesterday, he had been deflated for 2 days. I looked under all the rocks, but couldn't find any part of him.

After all that I HAD to do a rescapeing, I think it is required after moving so much rock. Love the new look, but no pics yet due to too much dust last night, and no lights before leaving this morning, I will try tonight.

When I got to work Penney texts me that Dory looks like she has ich, so tonight I get to setup the hospital tank and start treatment

She is a bear to catch too as she is "built for speed", and likes to hide in the rocks.

ugh, good luck with Dory!! I had to get a Dory outta my tank once... he lodged himself so deep inside of a montipora cap colony I had to break it apart with a chizel to get him out, after keeping the stupid fish outta the water for what had to be 30 minutes trying to flush him out!!

If someone wasn't buying that stupid fish, I would have fed him to my cat

Well when I changed this tank from the old 55 to the new 75 she had swam into one of the rocks and stayed there as I removed the rock and put it into an older tank I was using to hold all the water while I setup the new tank. Then stayed in that same rock when I moved it into the new tank.

Hope I can save her, I've had her over 8 months.

sorry to hear about the anemone pat - - wonder what caused that? did you change anything in that tank? (didn't hear if you had gotten the lights or not yet)... were you able to get the hippo out last night? how's he looking today?

So you took the tank all apart and couldnt find the anemone? My first thought was that it might be splitting but thats odd you couldnt find any of it.

Do you think you might have kicked up dust that got on the tang that looks like ich?
