well started this on the old forum and going to bring it up date on where Iam at. I started this awhile back and because of Personal problems put it on the back burner. Well now things are back to normal more or less and I sold most of my guitar making equipment (story in itself) so the tank build is back on.
First I started with an old 55 gallon I had in the garage that was scratched to hell. here is the before after I cleaned with vinegar, mini scratches and some good bigger ones were on the front panel. ![]() I used Novus to remove the scratches, it was the best purchase i made to get this done. It took some arm power but the results were evident after one application of the 3 step process. Here is after. The pic does not do it justice. ![]() I then went to drilling. I didnt want to drill the bottom for the Overflow, so I borrowed a design from Disturbedreefer on reef frontiers of a overflow design I found really worked well, so with a 55 gallon being so narrow I employed it here. here is how it goes. It starts with this. ![]() A trip to the table saw and results in this. ![]() Measure 5.5 inches down from the top and drill the back of the tank and install bulkhead and the OF and it looks like this. ![]() ![]() here it is with plumbing attached in the stand. ![]() tank and sump in stand ![]() here is the sump after build ![]() I decided to rebuild the stand, it showed real problems while it sat in the garage, so I built a whole new one. Perfection is goal not a necessity. I should be in water by end of week. Thats the goalILl update as it goes in.
