Regarding LED's, as supplemental lighting, they seem very nice. As a primary light source, I would hold off.

I change out my mh's every 10mths, t5 overdriven every 10mths and ho t5's every 12mths. The t5's depend on the brand alot imo. The ati's do well for longer than some of the other brands.
