Ice Cap T5 Lamps

Default Ice Cap T5 Lamps

Anyone have any feedback on these bulbs, and how are there PAR ratings compared to other bulbs. I ask because I am have had several bulbs (KZ Purple and ATI Blue Plus) go out within 3 months. I am getting frustrated and understand the ice cap bulbs to have a thicker filament so I was hoping this might work better for me. Lastly, are there any suggestions on where to buy the ice cap lamps. Thanks

Never use so sorry I can't be of any help, but would be interested in hearing others experience with these as well.

Well I found 3 places to order them and one maybe (they say they carry them, but arent on their site). http://www.aquariumspecialty.com, http://www.oceangalleryii.com, and http://www.reefgeek.com/ all carry ice cap bulbs and http://alohacorals.com/prestashop/ say they carry them but not on their site. Does anyone have any experience with any of these companies? I hope pasting links here is ok, if not my apologies. Also, someone suggested I run fans blowing on the ends of the overdriven lamps to extend the life.

These companys are reputable IMO and i dont think you will have a bad experience with any of them

Why would we have a problem with you posting links to products and asking for advice about them?

If the hood or fixture you are using dosent have fans running to help keep the bulbs cool then i would add them. Keeping the bulbs cool is key to long life of the bulbs

I agree the fans on the bulbs is the key, never used Icecap bulbs but they do have a top notch rep.

I always had a fan pointing toward the water to help keep the water temp down. I have had another fan in a box for a while now and pulled it out tonight and have it aimed at the bulb. I hope this helps the situation. I bought all ATI bulbs before and now that 3 or 4 have burned out and I have the original catalina bulbs back in I need to get better bulbs so I think I may try the ice cap bulbs.

I ended up changing out some bulbs and went with 4 ice caps so now my configuration

front
1-ice cap twilight
2-ATI aqua blue +
3-ice cap twilight
4-ice cap 10k reef crest
5-giesemann pure actinic
6-ATI aqua blue +
7- ice cap twilight

I like the look and hope the bulbs hold up better than the last ones now that I have a fan cooling the bulbs.

As others have said, be sure to use fans. Heat is the enemy of any lamp, so proper cooling is necessary to ensure they last.
