I saw those pop up in all the blogs yesterday. They are a little pricey ($110-$130) but the really cool thing about those bulbs is that you can screw them into a regular light socket. No ballasts, reflectors ect... If you have an enclosed hood, go buy some drop lights from HD and you are all set.
I wouldnt mind trying a few on the 180 to fill in some dimmer off angle spots. |

I agree when you look at it that way and the fact that your not buying ballasts.

They have them at Home depot for awhile now, 69.00 for the big one and 39.00 I beleive for the smaller one. They made well and look pretty cool. Check them out at your local HD.

I checked em out they are more yellow then white color, so I figure they would be more toward the 6500K range, Probably really good for Sumps and Fuges.

A swing towards LED seems to be occurring down in these parts of the woods. DIY kits priced around the $1500 are the go and much brighter then the pre packaged items. Wish I had kept the relevant DIY web page.
A local LFS employee has tested these and is now converting his store tanks to LED Reefing The Australian Way Forums :: View topic - My Led Build His link. your thoughts people |

LED's are coming for sure but with how fast newer and better diodes are coming out i would still hold out unless you have money to burn.
Nick i think the build you linked to is really nice. Has he said how much he spent in total? I just looked at the pics. |
