I was cleaning the crud off of the electrodes for my HQI brackets and one of them just crumbled apart! Now I have no way to light 1/2 of my tank!!! I just ordered two new brackets, which are adjustable so I won't have to screw with them like these last ones, hope they get here before my corals suffer.
I like the look of metal halides, but they sure can be irritating to deal with. |

Oh wow.... that really blows... hopefully the parts dont take forever.... you say half the tank though, are you using two halides? maybe alternate sides until the parts come in for the one?

Yep two halides. That's a good call on alternating sides. I was at the very least just gonna move my clam to where the majority of the corals are and keep that part lit, but rotating seems like a better option, although still a pain.

I think a loose fit led to the corrosion (arcing too much??). Anyway, it's the metal contacts that crumbled.

Well, just to top things off, the wiring on the other side disconnected. So both tank lights are down, I should be able to fix the one, but need to wait 'til the other bracket gets here before I can get the other one up. So for now I have my 48 inch T-5 fixture draped across my 29 inch tank. It's very elegant

JBJ would be the company that supplied the fitting, I stole them out of a K2 viper lamp. I was using JBJ bulbs too, so they should've fit perfectly.

Maybe. I don't think HQIs are an inherently bad design, especially if you're short on space, but these particular fittings really suck.

There are PAR equivalent LEDS, but not price equivalent LEDs.
