Nope, my belief is never put a tang in anything less then 110 long. They require way to much swimming to get food, and it is plain cruel to put them in a trough like situation.

I successfully kept a Sailfin Tang in my 75g, and I know the Tominni and Scopas tangs are ok in smaller tanks too.
The purple Tangs should be kept in tanks larger than 100 gallons though. How bout one of these little guys? http://www.bluezooaquatics.com/produ...id=865&cid=287 |

Well from personal experience, I had a very happy, healthy Purple Tang in a 90 Gallon tank. He lived to be about 7 years old and the only reason we lost him is that my father decided he could save money by unplugging the fish tank heater without my permission during the winter. Obviously, the aquascaping and currently live stock can have an impact on the overall size requirement for the fish to be healthy. A 75 might be pushing it but I wouldn't rule it out without looking at your actual setup.

Like I said above, it will work in a 20 gallon, but it does not mean it is in its optimum setting. Small space can stress a tang. Thats my 2 cents but it served me well in my LFS education to customers.

Well to be totally honest.
Bobby is right ! BUT and please here me out ! We are all wrong ! No matter how big our tanks are, they are no where near as big enough for what tangs need to live in !Lets face it,Seriously now , would a swimming pool be big enough ? "some say yes others say no" So is a 5 footer big enough ? "same answer yes ? maybe no !" Lets face it , well all keep fish truly in the smallest enviroment we can, and for me to judge you Shmoliken , i would be wrong. So i am not right ! Bobby no matter how big your tank will be you are not either !!...... so lets really think about it ! in all honesty you can keep a tang in a nano "but is it right ?" no , but what can i say if i am doing the wrong thing as well in a 5 footer!! All of you are wrong including myself !! Sorry but it is the truth ! |

Will work for CLAMS

I agree Andrew, in the sense of happyness the tank needs big open water and a 8 or 10 footer would be optimal. Would give alot of swimming room. A small tank will work but the fish will be cramped but can survive. So that being said my

I Keep my purple tank which is around 9inch in 220galons aquarium.its very healthy put i am sure that even a 220 tank is small for that fish. And thats a reality.
