So I ran across a snowflake eel for 10$, and he get's here tomorrow. I have a plan that includes him ending up in a 55 gal, and me getting a new tank. He is small right now, and since I've seen a lot of them in small picco tanks I'm going to put him in my fuge for the next 2 months. My fuge is about 5gal, and I've set to work making a guard to keep the little escapee in. There is LR in there for him to hide in (a couple of different caves), and I'm adding some macro algae Mon.. There are 55gal tanks all over the local forum for sale, so I'll pic 1 up in Jan. to accommodate for his growth. I'll take pics as soon as he gets here.

Okay Ralf finally got here about three hours ago. This guy is hard to get a pic of. He is also really small. Smaller than I thought he'd be, so I'm considering putting him in the DT till I get the 55gal up and going. I would love to hear from any 1 who has kept snowflake eels. What I have read says they are safe w/ fish, but to feed well and use caution. Not the best pics, like I said he is small and does not like the camera.

I'll get better ones as soon as he settles in more.

Never kept one personally, but I've heard they can get cataracts from high fat diets, so feed a good portion of food with the head/brain removed. This is based on zookeeper at the zoo explaining how they solved the blind eels problem.

I like both, that's why he gets his own tank after x-mass. I have 2 onyx clowns, an electric blue damsel and a rubuy red cardinal.

My 90 came with one, but I didn't keep it.The guy who had it before used to feed it shrimp from the grocery store. He said it never bothered his fish as long as it wasn't hungry. That said it was the only fish left in the tank when I bought it.

So I came home today from the fish store, and threw in some macro algae. I think the extra cover made him feel safer, because he was out swimming when I approached the tank w/ a piece of shrimp. Wasn't even shy about it, took the shrimp from the tongs right away and came back for more. Now that I know I can lour him out, next feeding I'll get some good pics.

It's always good news when a new arrival starts eating right away. He must have been hungry.

I know he wasn't fed for 24hr before getting to me. He not only came out for the first piece, he hid it then came out looking for more. He is sooooo cute. I think it's a good sign he fed quickly. His 55 gal is drilled and waiting for me to pick it up and start the build. Any suggestion guys, because this will be a new type of tank for me.

Now that Ralf has settled in, he is not so camera shy. Took these tonight, and didn't even need to feed him. He no longer hides, and actually comes out when I approach the tank.

Ralf is the only critter in my tank that I have gotten to name. Why Ralf you say? Well because you had to ask why. No really I like the yellow eyes too. He is very curious and has no fear.

SO guess who jumped ship. Apparently Ralf is smart. He found the tiniest crack and made it into the return section. I think I sealed up the loose ends now. Took 45min.
