Firefish and pistol shrimp

Default Firefish and pistol shrimp

A girl at my lfs told me that firefish will pair up with a pistol shrimp, share its burrow and stop swimming in the open, as they normally do. Any one seen or heard of this? That would be a cool display.

that does sounds really cool. I've never heard of it though. They pair up with gobies pretty good. I would think a jawfish home would be just as inviting.

Ive seen that video before, pretty funny. That bulleye pistol shrimp is one of the few species that wont share a den w/ a goby. They are loners, and wander more than make a fixed burrow. The blue dot jawfish are territorial w/ their burrow. The blue dots are very different than the yellowheads. They dont form colonies. Im hoping my yellowheads will get along w/ shrimp and watchman gobies.

Those two have been known to pair but its not common and i wouldnt expect it to happen. If you want to have a shrimp/goby pair then i would pick the fish or shrimp species of your choice and then find out what the most common wild partner is and go with that.

Hey you're very welcome!! It is indeed very cool to see a fish change behavior so much based on a relationship. I still prefer my firefish unbonded to a pistol, though, cuz they're just so pretty to watch swimming around ^_^

I have a hard time spending $30 on a fish - I can't fathom spending near $100 for a small firefish, no matter how colorful!

I know especially for a goby. I really want a pair of black capped shrimp gobies. But Im not willing to drop 500$ per goby. Same with the dracula gobies. Ill just get a randall's they are striped and cost 25$ instead of 125$
