Default Sand for sand sifting gobies or wrasses

You guys that have successfully kept some of sleeper or sand sifting gobies what type of sand do you use? Same question for people who have wrasses that bury themselves. I have read that sugar sand is best for these particular fish, but I am setting up a multiple grain sand bed for my Jawfish and Shrimp gobies. The main fish I am concerned with would be signal gobies (aka twin spot gobies aka 4wheel drive) and leopard wrasses. I have checked out the sugar sand, and I hate it.

Well just put the finer sand on top so the sifting fish won't get it caught in their gills.

Is it just crushed coral you have to stay away from? Or do they specifically need sugar sand?

i had a sand sifting goby [2 in fact] and a coris wrasse in my tanks with plain old aragonite. coris wrasse shimmied down in 2 seconds every night. amazing to see. sand sifters never stopped sifting.

I had a swifter and he was fine aragonite sand. My wrasse does not seam to mind either. One side note with swifter Goby they don't mix well coral unless you got a good power head.

+1 on the annoyance of a sand sifter!

My sleeper gobys like the fine aragonite sand I got. It looks similar to what you linked.

Not the sugar stuff though, right Pat? The stuff just a bit coarser?

I have some of the sugar stuff in 1 tank, wish I didn't. The sifters pile up the sugar stuff to go for the coarser stuff they like. I would recommend the fine aragonite sand, it is a little coarser.

Mine don't, they just pick it up move it and spit it out, no sifting involved.

I have some in my possession. They sent me samples of the bermuda pink, the flamingoa reef, and the grand bahamas biome. The grand bahamas is worthless. All the cool shells and rocks sink and disappear in the sugar sand.
