Cypho purpurescens, known as the oblique lined, flame or Mccullochi dottyback. I have conflicting info on this species. What Fish?, by Tristan Lougher and Marine Fishes, by Scott W. Michael both label this guy as shrimp goby safe and a max length of 3 inches. Dr Fosters and Smith have them labeled as max 4". The books say males are red, females are pink w/ a yellow head. Dr Fosters and Smith have a pink w/ yellow head induvidual in their divers den labeled as a male. Anyone kept this species or know anything about it? Id love to incorporate a trio of these to my build.

the dottybacks are kinda new to the trade (for a while the only ones you saw were the strawberries and the neons) ......
so, given that, I have never seen one of these in person, or from a hobbyists photo I vote you get to be our test dummy on these two - feel a pattern coming on yet eddie??? hahaha

I think this is fish species #3 behind the yellowheaded jawfish and the baracle blennies. Im probably going to have 1 male and 3 females. This will be the second fish I try to breed. Dottybacks have been well known to spawn, and can be reared. I figure the jawfish first cause they have large larve, then these dottybacks. I wont attempt the barnacle blennies for quite a while, being if the fish is 1 inch when full grown, Im sure the larvae are tiny.

not necessarily, there are huge fish with microscopic larvae and tiny fish with relatively large larvae. Just depends on the species.
