Does aggression pass...

Default Does aggression pass...

Or is it only one shall survive. I have a 3" blue spot grouper and added a 4" powder brown yesterday and the grouper will not leave him alone. Tried putting the tang in an acclimation box and the grouper ignored him. Then today I let him out and it's a constant attack. Anyone have a way I can keep both or does one have to go?

Thanks.

hmmm not sure of it. I don't know many ppl that have a grouper. They are a pretty fish. The powder brown is a good looking fish. I'm surprised it's not holding its own.

Is there a big size difference? My powder blue still harasses my lavender tang and it's been 6 months or so. Hoepfully it will ease up for you.

btw

I wish he would fight back a little. All he does is swim away with a little less tail fin. .

Probably not a good outlook, you could try pulling the grouper, rearranging the rocks and putting the grouper back in to upset and established territories.

I had a lot of aggression between a female and male blue chin trigger. It turned out that I was underfeeding them. Once I bumped up my feedings a bit the aggression went away a little while later (about 2 weeks). They were about the same size and the female was the aggressor.

So I'm unfamiliar with grouper and tangs. In general, though, in my experience with aggression, if it's not the nature of the fish, it will pass. I know a lot of fish I've had in the past that are deemed "non-aggressive" have been aggressive to new fish added to their tank. But it passes in a matter of 2-3 days. I think it's mostly just territorial.

I'd do more research into which way your fishies lean in regards to aggression.

well HELLO there primo and !!! how big is your tank? bigger fish like tangs and groupers usually require a bigger tank so that they can each "claim" an area as their own....territorial bully fish.........but spiny's suggestion below is a GREAT one.......changing the environment will make it seem like it's brand new for both fish so neither one has a first "claim" to it ..........also, feeding more like infamous suggested is a good idea too!

The grouper has established it's his territory if you pull the grouper out for a while and let the tang stay and rearrange the rocks some that will help, maybe even solve the issue

Thanks, I put the grouper in "time-out" in the sump for a while. Will re-arrange some rocks while he thinks about what he did . How long is too long for him to be in there? I was thinking about a week our two. Too long?

if it's just for a week I think that would be ok. Two would be fine also though.

assuming he doesnt get too stressed out he can prolly live in your sump forever!! once your tang is good and strong he can prolly hold his own against the grouper - be sure to be feedng him lots of nori now that he is alone so you can fatten him up for the fight when the grouper moves back in

What everyone's suggested sounds like the best plan to me. I'm curious, does anyone think it matters if its added back at lights out, or at the start of the day?

by the way Primo...

Those are perfect. I order mine online, caust no one carries them here. I buy a ton of it and cut it up into quarter sheets. I can put two in a day and they will clean it out within an hour. The ones in the tank are about 4X6.

++1 grocery store nori is just fine some go so far as getting organic air dried nori to ensure it is packed with the maximum amount of nutrients as the baking process can diminish some of the nutritious properties.

At the checkout line in whole foods. Cashier points to the organic nori and says "will that complete your order?". I answer, "yes this is for my tang, I buy the nori for my family at shoprite."
