Unhappy Our black and white Oscellaris clown fish is missing

We've had a pair of oscellaris clowns in our tank for at least 6 months now, one orange and white the other black and white. We got the black and white one a little bit after the orange and he was a little smaller. They seemed to pair well, never really faught and got allong great. We were hope to see them lay eggs at some point.

Last night while feeding them everyone looked great. This morning the protein skimmer looked as if it was busier then normal over night and there is no black and while clownfish to be found.

He either.

a. Jumped out but I can't find his body.
b. died for some strang reason.
c. Was eaten by our hatian anemone.

We bought the anemone in January because we were told he was along tentacle anemone. He's fun to look at and he seems to be growing but he's not a long tentacle. Our clowns never really hosted with him but I have watched the black clown swim right through his tentacles without any issues. The other fish swim close to him as well.

He was a strong swimmer as far as clowns go, so I wouldn't have though the anemone would have successfully caught him but he and the orange clown, so seem to sleep very close the anemone at night. Maybe he was stung while sleeping?

I just hate losing a $50.00 fish. Especally to a $10.00 anemone.

Keep an eye on the anemone. If it did eat your fish it may spit out a ball of small fish bones when it is done digesting it. What kind of set up do you have? Maybe the fish is hiding or has gotten through to an area where he can't get out of on his own. Like in an overflow or in the sump.

that stinks! I know it's hard to lose one. I had a small ocellaris go carpet diving a couple months ago. I would watch the nem too. Do you have any rock work it can be behind?

What all do you have in the tank? ie stars, crabs, etc.

Well my personal experience would tell me it wasn't eaten by the anemone. Not if the skimmer is skimming more than usual. If it was eaten it by the anemone the skimmer owuldn't increase production for a day or 2 after it ate the fish. usually when the skimmer goes in to over-drive it's because the fish has died in the tank and has started to break down.

Now WHY it died I couldn't ponder a guess, but you're probably not going to be able ti find the body as the clean-up crew has probably already made short work out of preparing your fish as a Mother's Day feast.

Sorry for your loss. I hate it when seemingly perfectly healthy fish die and/or go missing.

Is the fish still missing? Have you looked in your overflow box?

Oh NO!!!
I doubt it's the anemone - - unless the fish was already sick....do you notice ANY different behaviors from your other fish? what fish/inverts do you have in the tank now? (so sorry he's missing)

So did you find anything out? I hope so. I hate losing things too.
