Uhoo, Adam is getting another idea!
It's ONLY an idea at this stage so don't get too ahead of yourself I am considering changing my 4ft (325 litre) tank over to fish only with live rock! I want it to go in my room so we will have to put supports under the house, won't be hard, its just a matter of finding the time.... this is why I thought I'd make this a bit of fun for everyone... I'm gonna let you guys choose my fish! Please post up your ideal/dream fish list for a 325 litre tank! Lets have some fun with this ![]() Looking forward to reading your responses! Adam |

Dwarf Cuttlefish!!!
And why do you need supports under the house? Any home built to code should easily support the weight of a 4 foot tank. |

This tank is going to weigh around 400kgs if not more, it will go through the floor boards!
Do you think $130 AUS for a Aquamedic Turboflotor Blue 1000 second hand is a good price? I also have a 6000l/h pump that I could use I'm getting excited now!

QUOTE] It shouldn't. If you've ever had a group of people standing in that room and it didn't collapse, then the tank shouldn't do it either. It's about the weight of water per area, if it's only 2 feet of water tall, then that amounts to around 125 pounds per square foot (57 kilos per 886 square centimeters) which is like a very light person standing up. A standard floor should be able to hold 2-3 times that much if not more. But if bracing would make you more happy, then go ahead, just trying to save you extra work. |

yeah!! and if you strategically place the tank so its going across your floor bracing, you will be distributing the weight over a larger area of load bearing floor joists....

Yeah thats a good idea actually! I'll go have a look under the house now....
Barbara, I had a bid on that skimmer but missed out They cost $400 new here! The US dollar is a bit different to AUS though...How many fish do you reckon I can keep in this tank? |

That's really giong to depend on what fish you choose. You may only be able to keep 3-4 large fish, whereas you could probably keep 20 small chromis.
You'll also want to consider the type of fish and what they eat, and how often. Some fish are going to eat more which means more waste which means less fish overall. Other fish will graze and make minimum waste which will allow for a greater number of fish. I have a 75g (4 foot), that I keep 3 medium tangs, 1 clown fish, and a dottyback and think it's probably adequately stocked. |

I'm split between a community tank and a predator tank...they both have their ups and downs...predators are probably going to be more dirty aren't they?
Do you think I would be able to go for a jebo skimmer? Or would it be better to go with a good skimmer like aqua medic? In theory I should be able to get away without a skimmer as long as I did frequent water changes right? |

there's ups and downs with almost everything in this hobby adam!
![]() ![]() in theory....yes...however, it's almost always healthier for your system and fish to go with a skimmer...sorry I can't give an opinion on brands/types though - we'll need to let the rest of the geeks chime in on that one! ![]() (sucks how much more expensive these are for you too! )

well I have yet to hear any good reviews on anything with a Jebo name on it. Except one where someone gutted the whole thing and rebuilt it with quality parts.
I would look for an ASM or octopus skimmer. Water changes will decrease the amount of skimmate produced but I personally don't think a tank should be run without one. |

....but, in a fish only tank, you will likely have a ton of fish - so your skimmer is really gonna help you out when you go on vacation ![]() IMO, just get something rated at at least 2-3x your tank volume, and you will be golden - who cares about brand names. Cones are all the rage now, and bubble plates really give you a ton of oxygen to give you nice consistent skimmate.

A tank that size with a bunch of small gobies in it would be cool.
I also think you can get a much better skimmer then that for $140 wow just looked at a few Aus sites and skimmers are not cheap there |
