Suicidal Clown

My new sebae clown may have a death wish. I went to feed her nem last night, and after shooing her off gave the BTA some squid. As I pulled my hand away the clown darted back in, and then bit me when I tried to “save” her. Well the nem lost about half her dinner, but my clown is still alive.
Anyone else seen this type of behavior before?? |

My clowns were always great at, after they ate their fill of whatever I wanted to feed my anemones, taking it down and holding it in their mouths while hosting "feeding" their homes
![]() My vote, feed her first til she's full, that way she's not worried about the anemone eating more than her

Funny thing about clowns. they're stupid and mean.
Don't worry about "saving" her - she won't get hurt or swallowed by the nem. She is just doing what she is programmed to do. Protect and feed the anemone. Your hand is a "threat" and ger job is to chase the threat away from the nem. If you just drop in the squid (after she eats her fill) she will begin bringing it back for the nem to be able to eat too. It's odd to watch - but the relationship is a beautiful thing to witness. |

Craig... Clowns are hardly stupid.
It's a symbiotic relationship, the nem won't hurt the clown, and the clown will take care of the nem so don't worry about it

too funny pat! I agree with everyone here: clown is protecting the nem - your hand is a threat
... we use a very long (about 10"-12") tweezer tool to feed our nem and it works great! I've never seen our clowns take food for the nem though they try to take it for themselves - so the tweezers work great 'cause once the carpet grabs the food it's his! ... I also have to add that while our clowns did literally dive into the mouth of the nem many times and both were fine, when we cleaned the tank with the 2 fish and nem still in it (replaced rock and sand) it was too much stress for all, and the male clown dove in but never came back out ![]() ...Quote:
