Wrasse ID?

I picked up a new Wrasse the other day from the LFS and they didn't know the ID on it. Said it came in as a Coris Wrasse. I got it for $20 so it was right in my price range... It's not a very colorful fish but adds a ton of action to the tank. He has pink lines on his head with a white body and a black spot on his rear end. Any suggestions? It is constantly picking at the rock work etc looking for critters to eat.
I have another wrasse that hid as soon as I took the camera out so when I get a pic of it I will post an ID thread on it as well.

My guess - a Halichoeres of some sort - maybe a female due to the lack of coloration, or an immature one
![]() Halichoeres Maybe a Halichoeres bivittatus, or Halichoeres hartzfeldii, or Halichoeres trimaculatus, or Halichoeres trispilus Once he gets really fat and happy and fully colors up maybe we will have better guesses haha I'm just going off of the tail spot and general body shape

**crossing my fingers** it goes to the christmas wrasse side of the gene pool - those are purdy
The plain yellow corises remind me of those silly yellow tangs too much

If it is a true Coris wrasse keep an eye on it for nipping.....In most cases true Coris wrasses are reaf safe with caution and possiably will nip at LPS,SPS, and possiable also clams when they get bigger. The main thing is they can be destructive and turn coral frags and small corals over. They can also eat shirmp, hermits, etc.... |

Doesn't mean it will as you know fish have their own personality beyond the scope of the species.....Just as an over all general rule from what I have read that is a warning for them.....Can't find anything that really resembles that fish Chris......Might be a juvie or in a transient phase as well, also could be as esta noche said a female of some sort.... |

+1 if my ID is wrong it looks cool either way, and action fish always bring cool sights to a tank. |

I always love fish that eat like pigs - they are the easiest to trap when you need to remove them
![]() I doubt he will bother anything (i know, always hopeful, haha), unless he turns into one of those 12"+ wrasses - the yellow corises have an unjustified bad rep - kinda like the pseudochromises ... all depends on the specimen and how hungry it thinks it is!
