Good news on the filefish! Both females are doing very well. They both eat nutramar ova like pigs. One of them eats mysis, and the other looks very interested.
Also, one of the perks of working at my LFS is that I can order my own fish, so I got a male for the ladies. He is doing excellent, he has been eating nutramar from day one. I got him last week. So now that I have all three eating, I need to get them to gain some weight. I feed 3X a day and they eat well, but they are not fattening up as much as I would like. Any suggestions? Pics coming soon... |

I have PE mysis, which I believe is freshwater, and Hikari which I have no idea. I don't have access to bloodworms, and where would I get clams? Thanks for your help Steve!
Here are some pics as a reward: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The third female doesn't play well with others so she got separated. When they are all nice and fat I'll introduce them all at once to the 60 gallon cube. That way, nobody will have any territory. |

Thats awesome they are all eating. Have you tried to feed them more then 3 times a day to fatten them up?
So fish stores have blood worms. I have no idea where they get them from though. |

Thanks Chris! I have fed 3+ times a day but not consistently.I always feed at least 3 times but the rest f the feedings are just whenever it's convenient. It would be easier if they were eating pellets. I could do an auto feeder then...
I work at a LFS. I'll see if we can get some blood worms. |

All three are still doing well. The female in the pair is the fattest, she is very healthy. The male is getting there, but is still not as fat as I would like. The second female is a bit skinnier than the male. They still look pretty good to me though:

WOW......I am sooooooooooooo happy to hear this GREAT news blake!
(I was a little nervous to "bump" this one since these fish are usually very hard to keep ... should've known that if anyone can keep these YOU can!) ......did you set them up with an automatic feeder? how are you feeding them these days and with what? what other fish are with them now?

Thanks so much for the kind words! They don't eat pellets so I can't do the auto feeder. They taste them but never eat them. I feed nutramar ova before I go to school, they get cyclopeeze as soon as I get home, and they get a feeding of mysis at the end of the day. They are in with some seahorses, and the single female is in with some seahorses in addition to the picasso/c-quest onyx clown pair, and a pair of bangaiis.
I think she's a little skinnier because of the competition. I'd love to put them all together, but the females try to fight through the divider. I'll have to find her a new home eventually, but I want her to fatten up first. |
