Agressive clowns?????

I added 3 red fire gobies to my tank 3 days ago. When the lights go out they hide in some of my rock caves. I didn't see any of them this morning, wich is normal cause I leave before the lights are on. My wife just called me and said 2 are dead and the 3rd is getting picked on by my clown fishes. She is trying to catch the last goby and switch him tanks, or catch the clowns and switch both of them.
I never heard of clowns being agressive like that. What should I do??? |

Best bet would be to get the goby out and in to a different tank. I would not reccomend adding anything else to the clown's tank that isn't significantly larger then the clowns.
Clowns are VERY aggressive fish and can be EXTREMELY territorial. If I put my arm in my tank I can promise you my tomato will bite me within 12 seconds. |

Most clowns are mean. They will fight anything even things bigger than them. They chase off my tangs when they get to close. I'd move the fish out asap. Good luck!

I agree, try and get the last one out. How close to where the clowns stay were the fire fish at night?

The good news is that they are now separate, I just have to go get more gobies tonight, it’s my understanding that they like to have friends around. |

Clowns are evil, ask skinz he calls them satan.
Considering clowns are just a fancy damsel fish most are very territorial. Think the skunk clowns are little mean but I've never had them.

First, I too think that Evil Clown pic is freaky!
I think the natural pecking order is; Great White Shark, Killer Whale, Clown Fish, then everything else! I have a pair of Maroon / Gold stripe clowns and they are down-right nasty to anyone (including me) who come anywhere near their home, they host a few large hairy mushrooms. When I'm in the tank for any reason, they nip at me, thank goodness their still small (2-3"). They do chase other fish in the tank but I've not had any losses (knock on wood). Hope your Fire Goby is doing well in the new digs. Grumpy!

Got called back into work, but at least I got to check on my little buddies first. My last goby is doing fine, he hid from my wife and daughter, so he is still in the same tank.
My mis-bar clown was the trouble maker, and he is all alone in my new tank for now. My wife said she gave her a "time out" ![]() Too late for a trip to the LFS, guess that will be tomorrow. ![]() ![]() Time to head back home

Everyone is back in one tank now, and getting along. I did change some of the rock and made many more caves for hiding, so everyone has a different place to hide now.
I think I will go and get more gobys tonight and see how it works. And since ....New look New softies |
