Refusing to Report the Truth

Refusing to Report the Truth

By Alan Caruba Tuesday, July 6, 2010
I attended the first two International Climate Change Conferences when they were held in New York City, but a change of venue to the hometown of The Heartland Institute, Chicago, was enough to discourage someone like myself who no longer enjoys travel of any kind for any reason.
The most recent Heartland conference was held May 16-18 and drew over 800 people from nearly thirty nations. I “attended” electronically, watching the proceedings that were broadcast by Pajamas Media via the Internet.

My friend, Joseph Bast, is the founder The Heartland Institute and, in a recent issue of The Heartlander, he wrote a revealing and insightful article, “There’s Nothing Mainstream About Old Media”, that says much about the state of journalism in America today.
“Heartland’s first international conference on Climate Change generated 124 print articles with a total circulation of nine million readers. It was covered by the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, USA Today, Washington Post, Associated Press, Reuters, three of the four television networks, and dozens of publications outside the U.S.”
Though Bast did not say so, I can tell you that the bulk of the coverage was an effort to disparage the conference’s proceedings, devoted to debunking the global warming hoax.
The Fourth conference in May featured world-famous physicists from Russia and Israel, and the U.S..; two astronauts including one who walked on the moon…” Also addressing the attendees were the two men who exposed the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change “hockey stick” fraud in which a deliberately fraudulent graph conveyed the notion of a rapidly warming planet.
IPCC “scientists” had deliberately distorted their “research” to further the global warming hoax

The blogger who broke the Climategate story in November 2009 that revealed how IPCC “scientists” had deliberately distorted their “research” to further the global warming hoax was there along with eighty elected officials, and many others who have steadfastly questioned global warming claims, some for decades, until it finally began to die of its own dead weight.
Guess how many from the “mainstream media” covered the Fourth Conference? None!
This was and is literally a conspiracy of silence and, as Bast points out, “It is unethical for a reporter to refuse to report that so many prominent scientists and policy experts believe the fear of global warming is overblown. It is unethical to boycott an important event with major public policy importance.”
Keep in mind that the Obama administration’s desperate effort to push through Cap-and-Trade legislation, a huge tax on all energy use, is entirely based on global warming and the lie that carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions are “causing” it.
There have been many studies by journalism research centers that have long since established the liberal allegiance of the vast bulk of journalists working in the so-called mainstream media today, newspapers and news magazines, radio and television news outlets.
“This isn’t journalism, It’s advocacy”

“This isn’t journalism,” wrote Bast. “It’s advocacy.” And it is advocacy of a global fraud called global warming. It is the deliberate deception of millions of Americans and others around the world to further the global warming fraud.
Noted climatologist, Dr. Tim Ball, writing in CanadaFreePress.com, asked “How long before politicians realize the public are simply not on board the climate change alarmism? It can’t be much longer as economies fail, jobs disappear, markets weaken, and deficits and debts soar?”
The politicians in Congress and the mainstream journalists who report on the torrent of global warming lies from the Oval Office and the Environmental Protection Agency are likely to be the last to give up on their attempts to fleece the American public in the name of global warming, climate change, or “green jobs.”
The new media is, of course, the rise and growth of the Internet and its many websites and blogs that provide the truth about the global warming hoax and many other issues that are causing Americans and others around the world so much grief.
“Best of all, wrote Bast, “most of the new media is free of the suffocating conceit and arrogance of the liberal old media that makes most news stories unreliable and every editorial predictable.”
“If the price of the rise of new media is the death of the old,” wrote Bast, “then I say it is a bargain.”

U.S. Senator Jim Inhofe recently told a town hall meeting in Perry that his stubborn belief that global warming is a hoax is turning out to be correct, and there's proof that the science has been cooked.

Inhofe has been the center criticism and ridicule for his outspoken beliefs and was voted as one of the planet's worst enemies by Rolling Stone magazine.

Inhofe said global warming advocates have manipulated the data to try to force the U.S. to enact new emissions restrictions.By Alex Cameron, Oklahoma Impact Team

PERRY, OK -- He's been called an idiot, a climate killer, and one of the worst enemies of the planet, and it couldn't make Jim Inhofe more proud.

To Oklahoma's senior U.S. Senator, the insults just validate his efforts to expose what he says are the lies and exaggerations of global warming alarmists. And, as he told our Oklahoma Impact Team, his efforts are finally paying off, because public opinion on the issue is shifting.

Recent polls show this claim to be true.

A Pew Research Center poll done last October showed that Americans who believe there's "solid evidence the earth is warming" had dropped from 71 percent in 2008 to 57 percent. Also, a Gallup poll this March showed that the percentage of Americans who feel the seriousness of global warming is being exaggerated had jumped from 31, in 2008, to 48.

Poll results like those have Senator Inhofe feeling, not only validated, but vindicated.

"It was eight years ago that I got involved in this whole global warming, cap and trade thing," Sen. Inhofe explained to a group of voters recently at a town hall meeting in Perry.

"I was called the worst person--well, the most dangerous man on the planet," Inhofe recalled, "that's what they called me at that time."

'That' time was not long after a signature speech Inhofe delivered on the Senate floor in July 2003, in which he offered "compelling evidence that catastrophic global warming is a hoax."

The speech thrust Inhofe into a position few, if any, other elected officials had publicly staked out -- global warming denier. Not only was the self-proclaimed maverick saying that global warming is not being caused by human activity, he was saying global warming isn't happening at all.

"Now, I have to say," Inhofe told us in a sit-down interview, "it was miserable for about six years, because I was the only one out there."

Inhofe was ridiculed and dismissed in mainstream and left-leaning publications, and he says even his own granddaughter questioned his thinking.

"She said, 'why is it that you don't understand global warming?' This is my granddaughter!"

But then came the scandal that gave Inhofe and other climate change skeptics something tangible to hold up for public scrutiny. And it came, perhaps not coincidentally, on the eve of the United Nations climate change conference in Copenhagen last December.

Dubbed "Climategate," the scandal surrounded the publication of more than a thousand hacked e-mails between top climate change scientists affiliated with the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia in Great Britain.

Among other things, the e-mails made reference to the use of a statistical "trick" to hide a decline in temperatures; to keeping papers that contradicted the scientists' conclusions about climate change out of the UN climate report; and to the current lack of warming not fitting with their global warming theory.

Follow-up investigations conducted by the British Parliament, as well as, by university authorities have cleared the scientists and their science.

But Senator Inhofe says his own investigation has shown that Climategate is "real" and that the science behind global warming has been "cooked."

"After what has been exposed now," Inhofe stated, "I can't imagine there's anyone out there who really does believe."

The truth is, of course, there are many who still believe that the earth is warming.

Oklahoma climatologist Gary McManus is one of them, despite the e-mail scandal.

"I took that controversy very seriously and I did look through all the documents," McManus said.

He says the e-mails do reflect poor decisions by some of the most influential scientists in the field, but "that doesn't really devalue the rest of the science that the world has provided us on climate change."

McManus says the science has been independently verified at numerous labs, including NASA and the National Climatic Data Center, both in the United States.

"Overwhelmingly, that science reports that the earth has been warming," McManus said, "and the cause is mainly the increased concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere."

Senator Inhofe calls that alarmist rhetoric. He says the e-mails showed how scientists have manipulated data to fit their theory, and have exposed the global warming lie.

In another signature moment, shortly after the scandal broke last November, Mr. Inhofe told the chair of the Senate Environment and Public Works committee, Barbara Boxer, D-California, the issue is now settled:

"It's over, gone, done. We won, you lost, get a life!"

And, in another bit of good timing for Inhofe, Washington, D.C. was blanketed in record snowfall around this same time. Visiting Inhofe family members built an igloo not far from the Capitol and crowned it with a homemade sign reading: Al Gore's New Home. (Former Vice President Gore is among the leading proponents of global warming theory.)

"We've won that battle," Inhofe told the gathering of about 50 people in Perry.

Senator Inhofe insists the 'consensus' on global warming is now unraveling, and says, after enduring years of name-calling and disparagement, the last laugh will be his.

"Everything you found out in Climategate on how they're cooking the science, I said on the Senate floor back then," Inhofe explained to the crowd. "Now I've been vindicated."

Polls may show public opinion shifting more in line with Senator Inhofe's views, but they also show that his views remain in the minority. A poll conducted by Stanford University in the first week of June shows three out of four Americans think the earth has been warming over the last 100 years, and the same number think human activity is at least in part to blame.

IPCC Insider Admits Climate Consensus Claim Was a Lie | The Beacon

IPCC Insider Admits Climate Consensus Claim Was a Lie
By David Theroux on Jun 18, 2010 in Energy, Environment, Global Warming, Integrity, Media, Politics, Religion, Science, United Nations, corruption, propaganda, socialism, transparency

As reported by Lawrence Solomon in the Financial Post, prominent climate scientist/alarmist Mike Hulme has now admitted that:

The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change misled the press and public into believing that thousands of scientists backed its claims on manmade global warming, according to Mike Hulme, a prominent climate scientist and IPCC insider. The actual number of scientists who backed that claim was “only a few dozen experts,” he states in a paper for Progress in Physical Geography, co-authored with student Martin Mahony.

“Claims such as ‘2,500 of the world’s leading scientists have reached a consensus that human activities are having a significant influence on the climate’ are disingenuous,” the paper states unambiguously, adding that they rendered “the IPCC vulnerable to outside criticism.”

Hulme, Professor of Climate Change in the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of East Anglia—the university of Climategate fame—is the founding Director of the Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research and one of the UK’s most prominent climate scientists. Among his many roles in the climate change establishment, Hulme was the IPCC’s co-ordinating Lead Author for its chapter on “Climate scenario development” for its Third Assessment Report and a contributing author of several other chapters.

The referenced paper by Hulme and Mahony is “Climate Change: what do we know about the IPCC?” Hulme, also author of the recent book, Why We Disagree About Climate Change, is a key proponent of what is called “post-normal science” (see here and here), a postmodern narrative that consists of a complete perversion of standard scientific practice that he supports in order to propagandize for his socialist agenda. As he explained in portions of his book and his article, “The appliance of science,” in the Guardian (March 17, 2007):

“Philosophers and practitioners of science have identified this particular mode of scientific activity as one that occurs…where values are embedded in the way science is done and spoken.”

“It has been labelled ‘post-normal’ science. Climate change seems to fall in this category. Disputes in post-normal science focus…on the process of science—who gets funded, who evaluates quality, who has the ear of policy…The IPCC is a classic example of a post-normal scientific activity.”

“Within a capitalist world order, climate change is actually a convenient phenomenon to come along.”

“The largest academic conference that has yet been devoted to the subject of climate change finished yesterday [March 12, 2009] in Copenhagen…I attended the Conference, chaired a session…[The] statement drafted by the conference’s Scientific Writing Team…contained…a set of messages drafted largely before the conference started by the organizing committee…interpreting it for a political audience…And the conference chair herself, Professor Katherine Richardson, has described the messages as politically-motivated. All well and good.”

“The danger of a ‘normal’ reading of science is that it assumes science can first find truth, then speak truth to power, and that truth-based policy will then follow…exchanges often reduce to ones about scientific truth rather than about values, perspectives and political preferences.”

“…’self-evidently’ dangerous climate change will not emerge from a normal scientific process of truth-seeking…scientists—and politicians—must trade truth for influence. What matters about climate change is not whether we can predict the future with some desired level of certainty and accuracy.”

“Climate change is telling the story of an idea and how that idea is changing the way in which our societies think, feel, interpret and act. And therefore climate change is extending itself well beyond simply the description of change in physical properties in our world…”

“The function of climate change I suggest, is not as a lower-case environmental phenomenon to be solved…It really is not about stopping climate chaos. Instead, we need to see how we can use the idea of climate change—the matrix of ecological functions, power relationships, cultural discourses and materials flows that climate change reveals—to rethink how we take forward our political, social, economic and personal projects over the decades to come.”

“There is something about this idea that makes it very powerful for lots of different interest groups to latch on to, whether for political reasons, for commercial interests, social interests in the case of NGOs, and a whole lot of new social movements looking for counter culture trends.”

“Climate change has moved from being a predominantly physical phenomenon to being a social one…It is circulating anxiously in the worlds of domestic politics and international diplomacy, and with mobilising force in business, law, academia, development, welfare, religion, ethics, art and celebrity.”

“Climate change also teaches us to rethink what we really want for ourselves…mythical ways of thinking about climate change reflect back to us truths about the human condition…”

“The idea of climate change should be seen as an intellectual resource around which our collective and personal identifies and projects can form and take shape. We need to ask not what we can do for climate change, but to ask what climate change can do for us…Because the idea of climate change is so plastic, it can be deployed across many of our human projects and can serve many of our psychological, ethical, and spiritual needs.”

“…climate change has become an idea that now travels well beyond its origins in the natural sciences…climate change takes on new meanings and serves new purposes…climate change has become ‘the mother of all issues’, the key narrative within which all environmental politics—from global to local—is now framed…Rather than asking ‘how do we solve climate change?’ we need to turn the question around and ask: ‘how does the idea of climate change alter the way we arrive at and achieve our personal aspirations…?’”

“We need to reveal the creative psychological, spiritual and ethical work that climate change can do and is doing for us…we open up a way of resituating culture and the human spirit…As a resource of the imagination, the idea of climate change can be deployed around our geographical, social and virtual worlds in creative ways…it can inspire new artistic creations in visual, written and dramatised media. The idea of climate change can provoke new ethical and theological thinking about our relationship with the future….We will continue to create and tell new stories about climate change and mobilise these stories in support of our projects. Whereas a modernist reading of climate may once have regarded it as merely a physical condition for human action, we must now come to terms with climate change operating simultaneously as an overlying, but more fluid, imaginative condition of human existence.”

Such a deception could only have gone on as long and far as it has because of the cultural cover provided by contemporary Western elites who have embraced environmentalism as the new secular religion. This development and its implications are examined in detail in the Independent Institute’s award-winning, new book:

The New Holy Wars: Economic Religion vs. Environmental Religion in Contemporary America, by Robert H. Nelson

The Man-made Global Warming Hoax (Part 1)

The Man-made Global Warming Hoax (Part 1)
May 24th, 2010 by admin.

Although Al Gore and his media cronies endlessly bleat that “global warming” is an unprecedented global crisis, they really think of it as a dream come true. Why? Because “global warming” is the ideal scare campaign for leftist demagogues like Gore who are doing all they can to secure strict control over the economy and the minutest details of individual life. But now, in The Man-Made Global Warming Hoax tears the cover off the Left’s manipulation of environmental issues for political purposes, and lays out incontrovertible evidence for the fact that global warming is just more Chicken-Little hysteria, not actual science.

None of that proves anything. Science is not based on the public opinion. Evidence doesn't change because the population mindset does. I also have yet to see any actual proof to back up their statements that Global Warming is a hoax.

Researches talking about various statistical analyses providing different outcomes is not a hoax, there are countless ways to analyze data, and discussing which tests will work or not for their study is far from unethical, in fact it's the correct thing to do. Sorry, but 'climategate' isn't a scandal even though they want it to be soooooooo bad.

They are so quick to shoot down climate change based on vague statements, e-mail fragments and the words of politicians without any actual evidence to substantiate those claims. It's easy to attack the researcher, how about discussing what they did and why (specifically) it's wrong.

I agree 100% spiny......not sure about "global warming"........especially since we've only been evaluating/collecting data for less than 200 yrs......but the facts don't lie.....and scientists are not creating a conspiracy or hoax

If ya check out the post 1 2 3 and watch all 10 videos it goes into pure factual scientific explinations and real data and in verry good detail how CO2 lags climate change not leads it.

When we have GHA out break in our tanks it is a basic result of high amounts of neutrients ,it doesnt happen befor the neutrients occur.

Women become pregnant after sex ,, not befor,, In most cases,,,and cloning dont count!!!

The same thing happens with CO2 gass acording to all the scientific studies ever documentd , not one of the charts or studies of the global warming activist have ever produced charts that prove other wise ,Artic ice cores have proven this .

The videos of the scientist ,, some who were employed and even some who founded those organisations quit and resigned because false information and 1/2 truths were being published and they were pu ton this list of contributers ,, they did not contribute and had to threaten to sue to get their names retracted from the false data,, they seem pretty credible and scientific based in their testemony,, more so then the oposing side,,,,,,If ya watch their testimony on the videos they go into way more detail on the true facts and explain the reasoning,,,much more so then those who are telling us we are all going to die,,

I dont own any stock in any fuel companies or afiliated corporations period, I do own a semi truck that used to provide for my family .

If global warming is a real issue then I would tend to think I would be dead by now for living that close to the stuff.

I have been to most every big city in the USA and I have seen smog and polution ,I live beside a steel mill , less then 400 yards away .

Na,,,,,, it dont make any sense to me but I also believe we are all intitled to believe what we wish.

Personaly I believe ground polution is more deadly then any thing from above in the atmosphere.

If they do convince a few nations not to polute then that could be a good thing for them echoogicaly,, however financialy it wil be a disaster when it comes to their education and their nations infrastructure ,welfare ,health and medications..

Too much evidence from documented core samples of artic ice says these people aree lieing or are pushing false information and or 1/2 truths.

Global warming is a fact, not a theory.

The planet is warmer now than it has ever been since we've begun accurate sampling. That is a fact. It is undisputable.

I will concur that human involvement and carbon emissions being the cause of this warming is still a theory that is up for debate. There is the possibility that this is part of a larger natural cycle of the planet warming and cooling. An alternative theory for example is that the decline of the Earth's magnetic field is the cause of the warming. Most people aren't aware that the Earth's magnetic field has been declining for the past 2,000 years but in the last two decades it has plunged 10%. SPACE.com -- Earth's Magnetic Field Weakens 10 Percent

The reason right-wing republican christian fundamentalists sound so stupid when they attempt to debate the cause of global warming is that they tend to ignore it all together. As if it was some extreme left-wing liberal agenda that is compeltely fictional. You can't debate whether or not the planet is warmer. You can debate the cause of the warming and the effectiveness/need of policies like cap and trade.

Global warming is not a hoax. Adam and Eve did not ride Dinosaurs to church on Sundays.

Good point now we have even another aspec tto consider, the magnetic field .

Could that mean that the days are getting longer because the earth is spinning slower and causin the magnetic fields to decline??

There is way too many variables to consider!

The scary thing is that the poles can reverse. We've seen it on other planets. When that happens there will be a period when the earth is unprotected from solar radiation. Same thing may have wiped out life on Mars.

and it can cause the plates to shift also. Either very slowly or very fast. It could even put a place like here in MO as the north pole. There's no rhyme or reason to it.

that's not entirely true; the poles will reverse not completely migrate to an alternate latitude . It's caused by the internal dynamo of convecting metals within the earth's core. The earths rotation and inertia will prohibit the poles from forming at mid latitudes.

Guys I'm not a scientist by any means but the industrial revolution was really not that long ago if you think about it, but with the pollutants that I see from cars or industry or anything else out there has to be doing something. I did hear somewhere that it seems to be getting better since more people are becoming aware and trying to do there part in making things more green. Think the continued efforts will be the only way to turn it around if in fact that has any bearing on it at all. I will agree that all the oil spills recently need to stop or the ocean resource is going to be squandered.

Did you hear about the study they are doing in Chicago I thnk it was where they are planting rooftops ??

They say so much heat is relfected back from roofs and asphalt that this can help to.

Looks like there is a lot we can do if we try.
