Hi Barbara, the picture shows a Acropora formosa, a coral which I once got from a friend as an frag. If you look closer you can see the zooxanthellae in each single polyp. Now, the secret of a successful maintenance of SPS corals is in my eyes the Balling or three-part methode AND D.O.M. !

...and ... by the way Y E S .... I like it

well I love that acropora formosa! and I too prefer starting from frags...so much more satisfying to watch all the different growth periods! don't know too much about the Balling method but will learn more about it, and agree with you about DOM!

Perhaps this is the wrong place to write about it, but I will still respond shortly. If you want it I start a separate thread about the Balling Method. Maybe I can win even one of my friends, (Hans-Werner Balling (Tropic Marin), Claude Schuhmacher (Fauna Marin), or even Daniel Knop) make a contribution in this new Thread. We will see …... There are no big distinctions between the three part method and the balling method, there is only one very significant difference. The Balling method use NaCL FREE salt in measurable magnitude and the incorporated and special produced chemicals are chemically much purer than those normally used by eg from Dow chemicals.

He Heinz

Having frequently visited your website for a little while now I would also love for you to start a thread on the Baling method it is something I will probably incorporate in my new build and it would be good to get a healthy discussion going.

Cheers

That would be great if you did this Heinz, and if you could get those 3 gentlemen to join in that would be great, I am a fan of Daniel Knop, I have his book on clams and refer to it all the time.
