the plan is to use the same sand/water/rock, and it's supposed to take place this weekend.
no snails visible in my 3 and 6 am checks on the tank with a bright led thingie. i will keep the post going when there's info. many thanks. "should i see snail living tissue inside the shell?should they move around outta the water? In the snail shell? Might be hard to see the flesh in the snail shell but if they were on the growth edge of the clam when you found them then they were alive when you found them." the 4 i found were not in the white new growth area, just randomly on the shell. BUT shouldn't they move even a little in the air when taken off? i saw nothing move at all.

Hard to say if they would move or not. They might have closed up because you messed with them.
The snails arent always at the edge of the shell. they can be anywhere on the shell, around the byssal opening or on the substrate around the clam. |

no snails came off in last night's scrubbing, none visible on the one or the others either. continuing to scrub the one and after the tank switch, i will deal with the other clams.

I discovered a small, cone shaped snail on my glass today. I looked around the tank tonight and spotted at least half a dozen more of the little buggers. They're mostly white, and nowhere near my clams. They appear to be algae grazers and I'm assuming that they'd be on one of the clams if they were the bad type. I'll have to get some clear pics in the morning.

I wouldnt worry much if you find them on the rocks and sand but keep an eye on the clams anyway. Wait till the middle of the night or in the morning before the lights come on and pull your clams out and see if you find any on them.
