+1 on getting the water tested. You need a baseline to start with.

If your going to release your captive Lionfish (or any fish for that matter), take it to your LFS. They will most likely give you a small store credit that is worth more than the gas you will spend driving to the beach.

Great posts everyone.


My best suggestion right now would be to skip the trace elements.

Trace elements are just that, trace. If your worried about something missing from your water that could be effecting corals, fish ect.. then what you need to be worried about are the major elements (Ca, Mg and Alk)

Save the money that you would spend on trace elements and spend it on Ca, Mg and alk test kits and also on salt for a water change.

BTW, a good quality fish food will add many of these trace elements so feed your fish well and forget about it.
