I use oceanic. I have been happy enough with it that I dont think I would change. It mixes crystal clear really quick and I have never seen any residue from it. I only mix 5gal at a time though. I just stir it with a big spoon and away I go. I have been wanting to switch to brightwells but why mess with a good thing.

I use cheap salt. I dont care if the Ca or Mg is low. I have bags of that stuff that i can add if needed. Why pay $10 or $20 more for a bucket of salt thats supposed to have more Ca or Mg when you can add what you want for way less then a $1

I use Instant Ocean. Tried and true even though I have to add a little magnesium to it.

Seachem's Reef salt is my favourite, and I've been using Tropic Marine as well. I've tried Red Sea pro, but I would only buy this again for the right price, a little expensive here. I've bought a bucket of D-D H2O to see what it's like. These are the most common salts available to me, seachem's hard to get.
I sometimes use 1 brand, and sometimes do a mix. I won't use the cheaper salts, as I've always had poor results. I like to mix it up for a better balance in the elements in the salt. Some brands have extra's added that other's don't. Don't bother with Tropic Marine Pro though, as it's way overpriced, and needs to be buffered in all parameters.

Have not heard anything eitherway posative or negative. Was interested in the brightwell neo marine. My LFS has just about every brand so it's my choice. From some brand of salt thats generic to tropic marine pro reef. I think if it disolves quick and clean thats more important then parmeter levels since I dose so much anyway. Think for me a lower level salt may be better to help bring things down some. The oceanic salt was a good choice since the levels were pretty respectable and cost was normal maybe little cheaper then the norm and ir was a 200 gallon mix.

That's the one thing I don't like about RC. it doesn't dissolve fast. That causes that nice white crap to be in your buckets. Oh well. Good and bad with anything.

I just jump ship from using Oceanic and now I am using Neo-Marine now and I tell ya I am never looking back, My brown Acros have life again and Polyps are starting to come back and the Tips are starting to turn a lavender color. I also have a small brown Acro frag that was Brown now the Tips are turning Green. Neo- Marine is my Savor and other reefers that I know are getting the same results.

I too saw a pretty significant improvement in sps color and growth after switching to brightwell salt, but I also started doing water changes every three weeks instead of every week and got a vortech power head at the same time. I attributed the change to my hands in the tank less, but it very well could be something about the new salt.

I have used a lot of different salts also, but I like Tropic Marine the best so far. Reef Crystals left a ugly brown sludge residue on everything in my mixing container. It was gross.
I have thought about trying Seachem as it is a little less expensive. |
