Default Crabs

Hello everyone! I just got my live rock and I found the following crabs.

Can anyone tell me if they are reef safe?

My first reaction is NO. But on further review.... nope still no.

However if you have a sump you could put them there, I don't like crabs in my reef.

yeah usually those fuzzy crabs are bad. They will get big and eat your fish! You can either throw them back or add them to a sump or somewhere like that where they won't get into any trouble.

+1 on the better to play it safe. The one kinda looks like a matrix/emerald crab but not enough to put it in a display

Let's just hope that you found all that were in the rock.

Very true. The crab larvae are very small and easily missed. Keep an eye out on your tank for strange critters. Every week or so you can add a peice of meat in a corner and see what comes out for dinner.

Or take a clean glass olive jar (narrow but tall), put some meat in the bottom, lower it into the tank, and tip it on it's side, leaning against the rocks. Crabs get in, but can't get out.

That is some really good live rock. Honestly, I'd rather deal with the occasional pest than have 'dead' live rock. I bet you end up with some cool sponges, worms, tunicates, and maybe even a snail or two.

@estanoche
20kg. Though I didn't find them in the rocks. I found them in the rocks' package.

@Ashlar
I thought so to. As for the snails, we also found turbo snails, that already laid their eggs.. I also found an urchin and two shrimp lavras (I hope they are not mantis or pistol).

All those crabs are evil, I'd dip the rock may be more in there, there tough to find sometimes.

I put a glass can with some food in (it's easier than rearranging all the rocks) yesterday, but no crabs. I'll try it again tomorrow though.
