So the response from Cash Acme (the company that makes Sharkbite products):
Hi Jeff:

There has been no testing to determine the compatibility of saltwater with Sharkbite Fittings. My general feeling is that the fitting would be fine for an undetermined amount of time, and then begin leaking.
Thanks,
John Brill

And from another distributor:

Jeff,

I would not recommend using a Sharkbite fitting for a salt water aquarium only because the sharkbite fittings are certified for potable water or hydronic/radiant floor heating applications only. Although saltwater is kind of a form of potable water, within time the salt will eat away at the O-ring along with the brass body. As far as any tests, I am not 100% sure because we are only a distributor for sharkbite fittings. I would suggest contacting Cash Acme, the maker of Sharkbite at 877-700-4242. If you have any other questions feel free to contact me. Thank you and have a good day!

Thank you!

So looks like those will be going in the trash.

Thanks for all the help! Once I get my hands on a phosphate testing kit I am sure I will have a ton more questions.

Just let us know when you get things tested.

Good info on the sharkbite.

Ok finally got a phosphate test kit today. It is testing a 2.0 ppm. From my understanding, you will basically never keep your phosphates at 0 correct? Other than doing a few 35% water changes...any suggestions?

Test your fresh water before salt and make sure you have no phosphate. Good RODI will give you that.

Also when you siphon out the old water try to clean off the top of the sand.
