Default Is this a fungus on my leather?

Leather hasn't opened at all today, and this is the first time these spots have shown up. Almost looks like a fungus... Anyone know what it is? I'm going to be doing a coral disinfectant dip on it tonight, but I want to know what this is.

It might be getting ready to shed. When they get ready to do that they stay closed for a few days.

I got a zoa colony that has a nice family of red flatworms on a portion of the rock. After dipping it in this stuff, they were all dead at the bottom ^_^

I believe the seachem disinfectant is an iodine based dip, which is a good dip and it appears they are accurate in their description of "disinfectant" as iodine dips are usually used for bacterial or fungal infections and are best used on soft corals (since they are more susceptible to these illnesses)

But I can't help remember you saying you've had poor luck with sps's? Are you dipping them in this too?? If so, I would try another dip.

Dips are or should be specific to the most common illness/ parasite to a certain coal, for example, leathers get bacterial often so it would make sense to use an iodine dip, while stonies are more prone to bring AEFW or red bugs into your system, so you'd wanna use dips for that on those.

While iodine may kill flatworms, it may not be the best choice for stonies. With the exception of Long tentacle plates- as they are also very sensitive to bacteria infections, especially if they get torn in shipping or handling.

Anyway, just FWI for future reference if you didn't already know...

Oh man, I'm glad you said something! I HAD used the Seachem dip on a monti and a torch. The torch seems to be just fine, as is the monti, but now that I know it's more suited for softies, I'll have to look into getting a dip for my stony's. Thanks for letting me know!!

I dip all my stones in flatworms exit. When red bugs are going around or reported in my area I do the interceptor dip but thats a pain. It the stony comes on a rock, I cut the rock away and I look at the coral in natural sunlight for parasites or eggs.

I take a bowl of tank water and sit on my front porch staring at the stick. I know the neighbors think I'm on drugs, lol

That's okay, I'm sure my neighbors think I DEAL drugs, with the amount of people that are always coming to my place for frags, and either leaving with something in a plastic baggy, or bringing me something in a plastic baggy and leaving with cash in hand :P Sometimes they even leave with a white styrofoam box

Oh that's funny!! I met a guy on another forum that said after he washed his skimmer in his front yard he started getting the cold shoulder from his used to be friendly neighbors... He confronted one of them and they said after they saw him washing his "BONG" they realized they were no longer compatible!! It was a seaclone. Anyway after he showed them what he was actually washing, they were friendly again but he didn't want any more to do with them.

It was o long time ago, otherwise I'd try to find the thread, lol

Oh my goodness!! That's too funny!! Good for him though for not having anything to do with his neighbors. I'd shun them right back, too!
