Clown Pairs

I finally have most of what I'm wanting in clownfish.

I have a spawning pair of regular orange type ocellaris


My platinum and regular percula


and lastly an orange type and black (Darwin) ocellaris


Everyone seems to be happy. I'm waiting for the perc to get a little older and the with orange and black one needs to change to a female. I'm thinking it's going to be the black one. It's quite a bit bigger than the orange. The orange has already started twitching with the black one too.

WOO HOO!!!! definitely some love nests setting up there eh?! so do you have all the equipment and cultures ready? when do you plan on collecting your first "real" batch???

I have a couple of good bottles of nanno going right now. I'm going to wait on my rotifer culture until I have around 6 bottle going. The two I have are getting close to the point I can split them. I add 25cc of F/2 every day to each 2L bottle and have lighting on it 24hrs. So far it has been getting really green. I should be able to snag a couple of pics at lunch or this evening.

I have the eggs for the rotifers too, just waiting on the nanno...

I just can't wait to see the kiddo's. should be interesting to say the least.

Also anyone know what the regular ocellaris and Darwin ocellaris offspring will have a chance at? I have no clue what they may look like.

I have three bottles of nanno going now. I should be able to split them all this week some time. When I have 6 going strong I'm going to start my rotifer culture back up.

Glen there is an easy way to be more efficient with the air if you do more cultures. Place a hose from the air pump into the first container normally. Run a second hose from the top of the the first container, and place it as the supply into the second. Repeat for each subsequent container. I used to raise guppies in this fashion. You can use 1 pump and 1 single airline from it to supply air to a bunch of bottles. No better than running multiple lines with a more powerful air pump, but it is WAY quieter and uses less electricity.

I'm going to have to try that.



I noticed my black clown staying under the tile more and more. I think I saw it cleaning last night too. I might be about ready for more eggs! This would make two pairs that would be producing eggs.

Now jut to get my rotifer culture started. I lost a couple of bottles of nanno this last week. I think there were two problems. I think the salinity was to high, and I diluted the culture to much.

I had read that 1 of the reasons to link the bottles is to have a smaller spot for evaporative loss, as all of the air leaves through 1 hose. Also the bottles will have slight pressure which will help with evaporative loss a bit also. Not a tremendous amount, but anything that helps keep the water in those small containers will help with preventing the higher salinity. How long dies a culture of nano last. I dont think it is a very long time. How old was it?

I've split the cultures a few times. I think this one was only a week or so old.

Did it get nice and dark green, or never really color up?

When I split them they are nice and dark. The ones I lost are more clear. You can see through them easily.

How did you know they died? They get pale or stop turning green?

it turned pale then clear. I'm trying to recover a bottle of it. I'm adding the F2 daily. Maybe I can revive it.
