Looks like my stocking plan changed again. I think Im gonna try to breed the yellowheaded jawfish before I add any other fish. I may just stock my tank with the macro, mushrooms, and other inverts, and concentrate on breeding the jawfish.

I will def be the jawfish test dummy! And youre probably thinking of the blue dots for the grumpiness. Pairing up the yellowheads will be easy. They live in colonies peacefully, so it shouldnt be hard. If it works out with the yellowheads Ill try the bluedots next.

found this in an article I'm reading. pm your email to me and I'll send it
to you. It's a good one. The Southern African Marine Aquarium Fish Breeders' Handbook. Lawrence Oellermann "Another example of fish courtship and egg laying is the bluestreak goby. In this species, the sexes are distinguishable by the second dorsal ray of the male, which is twice as long as that of the female. The pair are usually inseparable, swimming and feeding side by side in the tank. The female develops a reverse "C" shaped discoloration anterior to her anal vent when she is ready to breed, which may mimic the swelling of her lower abdomen, which occurs as her ovaries mature. The swelling is distinctive, and is accompanied by the male gently butting at the region of her anal vent. Egg-laying and fertilization takes place in the refuge. The male will then emerge and seal the female in the refuge with the eggs. The tiny eggs are laid in a gelatinous clump attached to the roof of the refuge. After three days the eggs will hatch under the cover of darkness. The gobies are ready to breed again within a week."

What I learned from the articles on jawfish Glen grabbed for me, is that is has been done. Martin Moe did it. He reared the young on wild caught plankton. They ate baby copepods mostly. So Im gonna skip rotifers and work on algagen pods when the time comes. I will have flexibility with my system, and while I am breeding the jawfish, I will take full advantage of the tanks. I will either buy established pairs, or drop a colony in the 120 and see if they pair off. I can then separate pairs in the 29 gallon tanks in the system. I may also use one to rear the fry with a sponge over the drain.

set you another file on breeding. I hope it helps too. I'm trying to figure out how to share all the files I have with everyone. Be patient, it shouldn't be to long.
